View Full Version : Combining Parties

Does anyone ever do this? For instance, if someone wanted to combine a tastefully simple party with a purse/jewelry party, do you think it could be a good thing? Or do you think the people spending might spend less? Any advice would be appreciated.

Haven't done it. I'd probably suggest not doing it because they
would spend less money. You could have an inhome VENDOR FAIR
though and have a Creative Memories/Stampin Up person provide a
craft, a TS rep provide some snacks, and a jewelry person provide a
$10 door prize. Invite tons of people, let them stop by your booths,
get the snack, register for the prize, make a craft, etc. But not have
it as an "official" home show.
When pple are invited to Craft Fairs/Expos, they know to bring more
$$ than when they get invited to a plain ole home show. Thats my
personal opinion anyway. smileys/smiley1.gif

I avoid them when possible because sales for everyone is lower, and you don't get their full attention. I sell more when they get to play.

Well, here is my view on the subject. Purses are great, but in the same room
with food? I don't think so. Especially if the other person is aggressive
about promoting her food stuff...
Unless it's a charity/philanthropic event, don't share the spotlight with
anyone else. You want to showcase YOUR purses in the most favorable
conditions...

It was just a thought, she could provide the hor deurves or however you spell it LOL. I'll decide against it due to the lower sales. But I am doing a craft/vendor fair on Saturday for the very first time - wish me luck!

A lot of companies will consider combining parties as a conflict of interest. You might want to check that out with your companies. :)

Thats the only way I do my parties. My roomy sells adult products and together we do our parties...and we have both done very well doing it this way.

Cindy,
Would you feel the same way if the other presenter was not your mom, I
wonder? Would you feel a bit more competitive, do you think? In know in
my heart that I would.

I meant that I wonder if you would be fine sharing a party with a Mary Kay
gal, or some other person and business that was not your mom...or in your
case, your roomy...

I have never combined parties, that's why I cannot comment how good or bad they would be.If it works out for you thats great!I guess it all depends on what type of products are being shown.smileys/smiley9.gif

For me, I think that the attention of the guests is naturallydivided, and they
would spend less, or would buyfrom one and not the other. I much prefer a
"captive" audience.... MMMUUUUUUUuuaaaahhhaaahhhaa

I think it depends on the products. For myself, its worked very well, because our products don't compete with each other. As a matter of fact when girls are booking parties they ask and make sure they are getting both "party girls".

I sell Home Interiors and combined with Pampered Chef. That was a GREAT party for me but her party sales weren't so good. All in all, I think the girls (about 20 in total) shelled out nearly $800.00 that night so they like to spend anyway. For me it was good and I would do it again.

Rachel,
You've perfectly illustrated why I would not do this. It was great for you, but
not for her. What if it had been good for her, but not for you? Would you be
inclined to do it again?
Thanks,
Nondy

I've done parties by myself, and with my rommate and I average about the same in sales either way.

Even if I would have made what she made, I would be happy that I made something that night, actually. I could have sat on my duf at home and done nothing and didn't even sell a dollar worth of stuff. I would love to do it again if it got me out of my house and showing off my merchandise.

I absolutely see your point Cindy and Rachel. I guess my thinking is that if I
am going to do the work and use my time, I would rather be the center of
attention so to speak. Making something, rather than sitting on my behind
is better than making nothing, but not as good as if I were the only one
there showing my "wares"... Does that make sense also?

I know someone mentioned this already, but it bears repeating. Some companies do not allow other products to be sold at the same time at a hostess' party. It would be a conflict and not worth losing your distributorship or rep status over.
Just be careful what you are doing, and if you don't mind the lower sales (customers dividing their spending money, attention, etc), it can be fun I guess. I would think it would be confusing to me as a guest, and hard to focus as a rep. I'd want their attention on ME.
My 2 cents worth......

Nondy, YES I want to be center of attention too. That is what makes us great at this type of business. We can have our 20 minutes in the spotlight and make a little moola while we do it.
I also agree that it could be a conflict. You definately have to be careful. I let my director know what I am doing so she can tell me NO if I shouldn't be doing it. I want to be safe too.
I have only done it one time, would do it again if i had the chance to. Thinking about it, actually...

I honestly think two of the biggest factors are number one ... the products. You'll want them to compliment - not compete.
And number two of course ... make sure it's okay with both companies. Speaking of which, you'll also want to make sure it's okay with any hostesses that you might have.
As a matter of fact when girls are booking parties they ask and make sure they are getting both "party girls" That is great ... and you've created a little "uniqueness" for the two of you smileys/smiley32.gif. I bet you're a lot more well-known than some other consultants around smileys/smiley2.gif AndI have this feeling it's not too difficult for the two of you to book parties often, is it? Apparently the guests are enjoying the two you. Guests having fun = more bookings. Am I right here Cindy? You might make a little less PER PARTY but ... in the long run you're probably making out a lot better because you're getting more parties booked and meeting a lot more people? I'd rather have 10 parties at $100 each vs. 1 at $500. Not only am I making more but, I'm also meeting a heck of a lot more people.

I think a food & other type party would be the best. Meaning a food rep from one company and let's say ... home decor from another. Heck, food goes with everything and you're going to be having food there anyway, lol smileys/smiley36.gif
Just my thoughts! Great topic!

I am combining with Tastefully Simple for a party. It may not be a big show, but at least it's getting me and my products out and about. I am looking at it as more of an opportunity for more instead of a profit opportunity that night.
