If you are talking about the company in general, search wahm.com for it it is there. But you can only apply January and June and there is a waiting list of about 2 years.
If you are already off of the wait list, last year was my first year and it changed day to day so it's kind of hard to say.

Great American Opportunities - Careeer Opportunities (http://www.gafundraising.com/careerOpportunities.php) is this the job?

Right company, wrong position. I'm afraid you'll have to do a site search (advanced) and go through all the threads for the link as I just checked & there are hundreds of threads on this company - one post had over 300 responses last year - so you'll have to read through them to find the correct address to apply.

Natfly is correct in her information - and it's a great gig for most of us, but expect a long wait to get accepted for the testing and it's only seasonal - but data entry jobs are hard to come by where we can actually make decent money (& it's a great co. to work for) and there's a lot of us who look forward to coming back.

Good luck, do the search, wade through the postings & find the link then apply now if you want to get on the waiting list. :)

Hi Ladies, long time since I have been able to post. Through the grace of God (praise God), I finally got offered a contract, I start in September. It was about 2 years for me as well. But well worth the wait. I just hope I will get called back whenever they call or email back about new contracts. I am very excited!!! But as things go, we are at a very difficult time, we are going into foreclosure on our home (we are actually going to do a Deed in Lieu) but once we hear back from or legal aide attorney, we will know exactly how much time or if they are going to offer us a deal to stay and rent or whatever else. But it's such a mess, my kids need to start school (which I may homeschool them) and then I start with GAF in Sept and I don't know where we are at with the house. I have been looking at Rent to owns and Rentals, trying to find something affordable and in a decent neighborhood. I am stressed, but to some extent through Gods good graces at peace. I know everything will work out, it's just getting there that is stressful. I wish Gods blessings to everyone looking for work at home jobs and regular jobs. God Bless, Gina

I applied July 16th and here is the email that I received: (I hope I remember :))

Thanks for your interest in our Home Based Operator (HBO) opportunities. Great American Opportunities, a school fundraising company, has been contracting with interested individuals to enter gift orders or magazine subscriptions from their home computers. The rate of reimbursement will be piece rate for each subscription order form completed. During late 2009, we will be contracting individuals to work August 1 – December 31. HBOs will have access to our system 24/7 with the only limitation of no work available. The heaviest volume of work occurs from September through December which will permit some dedicated individuals with excellent data entry skills to earn a significant amount for this time period. There are no fees to you other than your expenses for high speed internet, etc.

It is required that you own a computer with Windows XP (1 GB of Ram) or Vista (2 GB of Ram) and you have a DSL or a cable modem for optimal performance. You must take a test from your home to receive a contract offer.

We have completed contracting and testing for Fall, 2009. If you are interested in pursuing this opportunity, please contact us in January, 2010 (January 1 -15), and we will schedule you for an on-line test for potential contract openings. This test will illustrate what you would be completing should you choose to accept our opportunity. When requesting to complete a test in January, please include your full name, address, and phone number.

I've been doing this for about a week now but thought I'd be making more than what I am.
Just out of curiousity, how many orders is everyone doing per hour? Or per day? I'm averaging about 30 orders per hour and 100 orders per day.

There were some days last year that I was able to do about 200 orders a day and that was with 3 kids...I think it just depends on typing speed and if there is work to actually be done.

NATFLY2000
09-15-2009, 10:33 AM
Forgot to add that it also depends on the length of the orders. Some are VERY long and some are super short...
You will get faster with time...Last year I was averaging probably 50-60 per hour.

ChristyP
09-15-2009, 02:00 PM
I am definitely loving this. I know at the beginning I was worried about my speed, but after just one week of doing this I have went from 20-25 per hour to 38-40 per hour. I hope I keep increasing my speed.

Does it get any busier than what it has been the last week and so far this week?

Christy

09-15-2009, 05:21 PM
Yeah, it definitely gets busy.

Also once you are contracted, your contract doesn't terminate unless you choose to. If you do not key enough in the FALL then you do not get an offer in SPRING but you will receive another in the FALL.

I'm excited. The extra keying is alright...kind of bummed I went from 75 to 50 on average but that's okay. :)

Hope you guys have fun keying. :)

I worked for GAO a couple years ago while I was also working fulltime outside the house. I didn't do enough at that time to get even a fall contract the following year. But earlier this year, I emailed and asked if they would give me another chance because I am now a SAHM and don't have that committment to a "real job" anymore. So they agreed, and I start up again next week! I am really excited to be back with GAO, it's an awesome company! I'm hoping to be able to do enough this year to get a Spring contract as well :)

Thanks for the info on CTRL-N. I never knew that!!! What a great shortcut. So, it automatically fills it in for you? Or, do I need to do anything else with the original name?

I finally got work yesterday around 3:00 and I worked until 5:15 (when I needed to start dinner) I was able to key 200 orders. I hated having to shut down! I was happy to have the work. I had a small window of time this morning, but alas... no orders yet.

I will be able to get back on around 1:00, so hopefully there will be work then. If I remember correctly from last year, by early October (or maybe mid-October), there seemed to be work for most of the day/evening (and often on a Saturday, too)

Good luck to all today!!

I have been working magazine orders pretty steadily since about 2:30. But I have a bunch of errands to run before I have to go do a party tonight, so I had to stop for today.

100 orders per hour? I am averaging about 65 right now, and it's my first day working...I could MAYBE work my way to that point eventually, but probably still wouldn't get enough work in to get it. I'll just bust my butt to do all I can before this contract runs out.

sarahlorrain
09-23-2009, 08:05 AM
So now you have to have a certain hourly amount to be considered for the Spring contract? Last year you had to do a certain amount of orders during the fall season. I guess they changed it? I can't imagine doing 100 an hour. I do just under 50 an hour.

sydnee21
09-23-2009, 11:05 AM
I would be interested to have shenanigan post a follow-up to her email. I was under the impression that the "200 per 2 hr" post was in response to someone saying how many they had keyed. I may be wrong.

I had heard it was a certain amount of entries in the fall, too. I wouldn't make much sense to keep someone on that keyed fast, but only keyed a few hours per week. Maybe I'm wrong.

yankee27
09-23-2009, 05:43 PM
Wow, I thought I was a fast at input too, until this job! 200 per hour - I don't know how. I am averaging 50-55 right now with many, many interruptions during the day. I am only on for 15 minutes at a time. I am hoping that it will pick up for the weekends/evenings as well. I am anxious to see what my per hour will be with a consistent couple of hours going with no interruptions. I will let you all know if I get anywhere near 100 per hour! I am toast for the Spring contract if it is 200/hour. The only thing I am having issue with is that I keep making "beginner" errors regarding what to bypass, etc. Hopefully with some consistency it will become more fluent. Good luck to everyone!

I honestly keep thinking I'm messing something up.

A lot of times I don't have the quotes or the arrows dictating that it's the same customer....it's obvious though. Curious at what you do with those?

And now we have new procedures (make sure you check your email)...this will probably hurt my average. LoL

Definitely don't get discouraged....usually most people get invited back for fall regardless hence why the waitlist is so long.

Good luck and have fun keying!

A good tip I recommend: create a playlist, and it'll help move you at a faster pace.

I emailed them last night because I was stuck on the Downloading Database screen for 20 minutes and was advised that it was caused because of a system issue on their end. Thought I would let you all know.

Anyone getting any work yet, today. I got a little early this morning, but seems odd I haven't gotten anything more. Just says no orders.

I just got on for today and it is 2:00pm (eastern) And, no orders. Yesterday, I got some work in the late morning and then nothing until 3:00pm.

I am going to get lunch and will keep checking my screen to see if an order is up!

I'll be happy once it's a little more steady. 5 here and 5 there is a little annoying. And once I start working on something new, then new orders pop up!

Has anyone gotten any magazine orders today? I had work all night last night and worked til about 3am. I logged in about 10am and worked for about an hour before I had to log off to take care of some errands. I logged back on around 12:30pm and have been logged in ever since and nothing. I even logged all the way out and back in thinking there might be something wrong. I got software update but that's it...Anyone????

I have been logged in all day and had about 4 orders this morning, but that is it. Has anyone received any orders today?

They sent out an email a week or so ago about them not getting there mail in until 11:30 am central time then it's a long process before they release them to us to work on them. Unless they have orders left from the night before I don't expect anything in the mornings.

Thank you I forgot about receiving that email. Silly me....

I am not getting emails either. I did not get the one about when orders should be available nor the one about the scanner being down.

Some of you may not be getting emails because you are working gifts. That's separate from magazines.

Argh, every time I come to this forum now I just get plain irritated by this new layout!!!! I used to come every single day, many times a day, but not any longer. It just is not growing on me. I feel you on this one......

I was just wondering if there was work today? I didn't see Veteran't Day listed.

I did not see it listed either Theresa, but I went ahead and sent an email asking anyway and so far no response. I guess we just have to wait and see if it starts to pop up in the meantime. If I receive a response I will be sure to post it to let everyone know.

I just started working for gao and was wondering how to get paid? Do they just automatically pay you, or do you have to request payment. If so, how do you request? I've been reading through my emails and just can't figure out how to get paid.

All of that information if I am not mistaken was in your manilla envelope when they mailed out your contract date and details.......

And, you would have had to given them the information to pay you with as well.

Slow day today and yesterday. Hopefully it picks up soon. I did a lot of orders on Monday, but yesterday was barely 100

I think it's just "that" time of year, it was really slow the week before last too, and somewhat slow last week.

Can anyone get into the focus system? It keeps giving me an error occurred on sending message when I try to log in. I did email them and am waiting for a response, but curious if anyone else is getting the same message.
