What type of candles are you intereste din making and selling?
Parafin, soy, beewax..etc?
There are numerous candle companies out there you can order from ...
Here is a really good one, and they have affordable prices-www.peakcandles.com
There are others, but this comes to mind.
I have been making my own soy candles using Candlewealth soy candle wax... and they come out really smooth, clean and they are easy to clean up and safer (In my opinion) to make.
It is very relaxing to make candles.. I am sure you'll love it!

I know I'm a little late to post, but I've been looking into making candles for a while too. It always interested me but I never knew where to start. I started doing lots of research yesterday and I decided I'll start with paraffin wax & maybe gel wax. I know what kind of candles I want to make, focusing on scents. Try & figure out what kind of candles you want to make. I'm going to just buy small at first, like a small thing of wax, a few sample scents and see how I like it. I read a lot of awesome stuff at the candle & soapmaking on About.com, there was a lot of useful info there. Good luck!

check out candle suppliers, there is a bunch on line... some have a starter kit to help you get started. there are books on making candles and a ton of info out there. Most suppliers have message board to help you with info, and trouble shooting... You have decide on what type of candles you want to make... Soy, Palm, Beeswax, Pariffin, pillars, jars, carved, molded, I could go on....
Start looking at website of candle makers... see what they are doing.
good luck starting your candles business. Once you pour one, you will be hooked...
I have been making candles for 5 years.. I took a year off to try direct sales again.. but back waxin...

eBay is a low cost way of selling merchandise. The key to making money is finding products
that people want and that you can get cheaper than others.
Swap meets & Flea Markets is another way to generate additional revenue. What makes
these gatherings so attractive is the amount of people that go to these events.
Candles parties work very similar to Tupperware or Avon parties. The events are basically a
gathering of guests where you would present the products. You would show a few samples,
hand out samples, and explain the products to the group of guests.

I agree with Marcy the best way is to start local and go from there. I am still in the testing stage but I love it. I do sell plenty of reed diffusers to keep my hobby going. Those are easy to make and easy to test.
Just last night I poured Warm Cider candles and I got the color all wrong. It was suppose to be a dark orange color but it turned out more of a mauve orange. I decided to name the candle "Appleberry Cider". (lol) I still have to test it but if all goes well, thre is another candle down and more testing to go.

Surf the net about the topic on making a candle. Im sure a lot of people has been sharing ideas. Creating and selling are different topic so search first on how to make a candle - suppliers, materials etc.

I used to make candles and bath products, I wanted to note as no one has mentioned this yet. When you manufacture your own products you will need a home occupation permit, business license, sales tax permit and hefty insurance. Running your business without these things is not, well, legal!
When making candles you have to use the right wax with the right % of fragrance and the right sized wick, it takes a LOT of testing (every batch should have testers burnt to ensure safety). It is very rewarding BUT takes a lot of time and dedication!
I made candles and bath products for over 5 years then sold my company in 2007 to focus on other avenues :)
