I'm new here and I'm glad I found it! I joined Stanley and I think I am going to like it. I like the products. I still have a problem with coming out and asking folks about parties and things. I have done pretty well this week. Any advice for a newbie?

Hello and welcome to wahm! :) Just remember to be excited about your products and don't get discouraged at the first no's you get. Sometimes you have to hear 100 nos before you get a yes!
Best wishes!

That's wonderful BusyMomof4! Geez, I didn't know that Stanley was still around. smileys/smiley36.gifThey're probably the first, or one of them, direct sales companies. Them, Fuller Brush (are they still around?) and Avon.

Make a list of people you know - catagorize them into an ABC list - A's being the ones you just know are going to say yes, B's being the ones you just don't know what they will say, and C's are the ones most unlikely to give you a party - start calling - start with the C's first - some may surprise you and say yes, even if they don't...think of the practice with booking you will have by the time you get to your B's and A's! Smile when you pick up the phone, people can hear the enthusiasm in your voice!!
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Do any of you ever hear "There isn't anything I can afford?" or the "Stuff is too expensive". Is this the person that you go that extra mile to talk into buying or having a party". I know that there are some you just can't. Got any hints on how to handle someone like that?

Hi Ophelia,
Congratulations on starting your new business! When someone tells you they can't afford to buy, they are giving you the perfect opportunityto invite them to get products FREE by hosting a party. smileys/smiley1.gif I also recommend that you learn as much as you can about your products so that you can show prospective customers the benefits of your products as compared to other similar items on the market.
The best piece of advice that I can give you is that this business isn't about making sales so much as it is about building relationships. If you keep the PERSON as your primary focus as opposed to making the sale, you will be far more successful. Build a relationship with your customers... get to know their individual needs and wants, and then figure out how you can help them with that. Providing good customer service is key. These days people can go down to the mall and get just about anything they need. But what we can offer (in addition to quality products, the opportunity to get them free, etc.) is the kind of personalized service that has nearly died out in the era of "mom and pop" stores being driven out by the big conglomerates. Remember that your customers are dealing directly with the business OWNER... you!!! And if they feel that you care about their individual needs and want to make their shopping experience as pleasurable as possible, they will come back to you again and again.
Blessings,
Christy
