I have a couple of pieces of furniture to get rid of. These things are massive and I am not taking them apart and shipping them anywhere. I just want to get rid of them and get a smidgen of the money out of them that we paid for them.
In putting the listing together on ebay, it's requiring me to accept a paypal payment. Well, I don't want to. For these, because they are local pick up, I want it to be a cash transaction. Not only that, but I haven't used paypal in FOREVER and just don't want to mess with it.
Why is it requiring me to use paypal? Is it because I am just using the quickest listing method possible? I haven't ever sold on ebay before, but am considering doing so on a regular basis to bring in some income for us, so these pieces of furniture are my kinda like my test to see how all of that stuff works.
In fact, because I am considering using ebay and/or etsy to sell some things, I am thinking about closing the paypal account I have and opening a new one, tied to the email that I would be using for the stuff I would be selling.

I don't know Kim. I didn't think paypal was a requirement, but it may be now. Paypal gets a small percentage of your sale, as well as eBay. That might be why they don't let you do cash transactions.
I prefer paypal myself. I find it easier to buy when I can pay through paypal. It's the quick, easy, and secure way to get your money. I have never had any problems with them.

I'm pretty sure PayPal is now required, even if you also list local pickup as one of the delivery methods.
If it's a piece of furniture you don't want to even consider shipping, why not try listing it locally on Craigslist? (no fees on Craigslist)

I work for paypal here in Nebraska andI have some good answeres to your questions.
After Ebay partnered with PayPal, ebay now has is as arequierment to use paypal to process payments, and the reason for this is so many people were sending money orders or cash and checks and never recieveing the items. having only an electronic funding method is designed to be safer over all but there are still things that just arent bullet proof. ( after all nothing ever is, and its really unrealistic to expect otherwise).
Selling your items for local pick up only does save you on shipping but opens you up to Non Reciept or Unauthorized transactions.
basically, someone picking up your item then saying they never got it or that they were not the one who made that transaction. Beacuse you would not have any tracking that would show delivery to their location, you would have ZERO seller protection. Meaning that you losee your item and your money, because we would have no proof that the item has been delivered.
if you have any other questions about paypal, i can absolutly help you out. Tho i will not be able to look up your account.
