There are pros and cons to selling skin care AND food believe it or not. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
Serious money can be made in both. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley38.gif
I wrote down some pros and cons for each.
If you are trying to decide between selling skin care or food, here are a few pros and cons of each to consider.
Yeah, I know, its another one of those questions thats been asked before but I forget the replies. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
Food first......
FOOD-The Pros
-everyone eats! (the first and most obvious)
-affordable.
-everyone is a customer.
-FUN whipping up recipes and dishes.
-can get MANY people to attend a food party and they are EASY to book.
-recession proof.
-you get to eat some of your profits. lol
FOOD- The Cons
-VERY low ticket item, must sell a LOT to earn good money.
-lower retail commissions, average 25% or "less".
-mixes to make up and cakes to bake and messes to clean etc..
-some people have "many" food allergies and restrictive diets.
-you need a fairly large amount of inventory to show. (more stuff to slug)
SKIN CARE- The pros
-everyone has skin.
-women LOVE to be pampered especially in their own home.
-many women AND men have skin care issues and complexion problemsand look for high quality products. For THEM a good skin care system is a necessity not a luxury.
-High retail mark up,50% or more.
-you can sell LESS skin care and make LARGER commissions.
-recession proof.
-EVERYONE wants to look younger and STAY looking younger. (huge baby boomer population)
-MUCH more affordable alternative to cosmetic surgery.
-you dont need much inventory at all and everything you need can fit in one small bag.
SKIN CARE- The cons
-In many cases you will get a lower attendance for a skin care party than a food party and they will be harder to book.
-many women have ultra sensitive skin and are extremely cautious of what they put on their face.
-many are loyal to a particular skin care line already.
-more expensive than buying a few of jars of spices, coffee etc...
If anyone has any more pros or cons to add just chime in.
Me personally...the mainthing that JUMPS out at me is the amount you need to sell to make GOOD money.
Although you can get MORE people to a food party, its more hustling for higher sales.
Example;
I throw a skin care party, five gals attend and the "average" sale per gal is $100.00- $150.00 or MORE!
Plus the retail mark up is HIGHER on skin care so I dont NEED as many people to show up anyway.
I throw a food party, nine people attend and the average sale per person is $50.00. And the retail mark up is much lower so I "need" more people to show up.
If only three show up,it wont be a high sales party.
Of course there ARE exceptions to both!
Someone at a food party could end up spending a couple hundred dollars (if you get a real foodie like Lorena) smileys/smiley36.gif and someone at a skin care party might only spend $30.00 on a cleanser or something else.
If someone comes to my home to buy "one on one" and they buy two jars of spice for UNDER $10.00 (each) andmy commission is only 25% I only earn a mere $ 3.50 or so!
But if someone comes to my home to buy "one on one" for some skin care and they buy a complete skin care system or face lift system or whatever and they spend at least $150.00,at 50% commission I would earn $75.00!
If I was at 40% commission I would still earn $ 60.00 compared to a tiny $3.50 on thefood.
Of course someone can also stop buy and just buy ONE lipstick too,but for the most part, many women spend WAY MORE than that.
So, I lean more towards skin care, even though I LOVE food! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif
These are just my personal choices and others will have theirs!
There is no right or wrong so dont be shy. Just jump in! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
