I started up a wedding and events planning business in San Antonio, Texas and have been doing pretty good. I would suggest that anyone that wants to start this type of business to get some training. I did a home course for it and found out a lot of information that I wouldn't have thought of. Things like how and what to charge and how to advertise and how to plan weddings of all faiths and so much more. It really came in handy and it never hurts to have a certificate and be certified.

Actually, I did the home course and after I was finished with it I then placed an ad that I was new to the wedding planning scene and that I was doing weddings and other events for free to get my portfolio started. I hadseveral responses for weddings anda quinceanera I have done the weddings and am doing the quinceanera this weekend and now have my portfolio started and am booking weddings now that I have hands on experience and a certificate to go with it. So the start up was not expensive at all. My business cards cost about $15 through office max and my website is through tripod about $9 a month. Hope this helps give you some ideas.

Congrats!! I'm about to start my business too but i know a certification is not necessary for start ups. I'm currently doing a course through US career Institute but my question to you is Do you have to get a business license to start your business? Just curious...:)
