I've never been to any candle party, but I'm actually considering to join company to sell candles.
I'm interested in knowing how everyone do their candle party. How long is your party? Do you need to talk a lot? Do you need to carry a lot of samples?
Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Olive! It's been a while, but I used to do parties. I really enjoyed them. Mine would last a couple hours, but I didn't talk but maybe 15 or 20 minutes. I'd play a little game, giving a gift, and then explain the products and take orders. I'll send you a PM with some more details.

Hi! When I Joined Scentsy i had NEVER done any sort of home party before, so i was nervous.. but i found it to be very easy, it's like your talking in front of a bunch of friends each and every time. I just play a few games, talk about my products, go over the catalog, talk about hosting and starting a business, take orders and enjoy myself. After you do your first one, its a piece of cake!

Hi Olive,
My parties usually last 1 hour. I make a display of my candles and other items prior the the guests arriving. When they all get there I have them fill out a receipt with their contact information for my database.
I have everyone introduce themselves and how they know the hostess. I tell them about me, the company then go into the products. Why they are different, different lines, burn times. I go through the catalog but just touch on each thing. I take questions and then let them smell all of the scents. I talk about the great hostess rewards and the company then meet with each person individually to help finish their order, book and upsell. That's about it!

Everyone does things differently, but basically, put some items
out on the table. The presentation isn't very long, 15 to 20 minutes.
You want to intro your company, maybe a bit of history. Talk about what makes
the candles great, maybe highlight a few items. Mention the hostess specials and signup
specials.

I haven't done a lot of parties but when I do they seem to take on a life of their own. Most people haven't heard of Scentsy so it's easy for me to explain how the warmers and wax work. It's nice because everybody is really interested.
Now if there is someone there who has heard of Scentsy, I don't have to say much at all. They have a good time showing their friends, etc. how the system works. I'm just there to add a point or two or to answer questions. The other attendee(s) usually has enough excitement for the product to explain it.
If they have all tried Scentsy before than they are interested in seeing and smelling what's new and grabbing up some of their favortie bars. They may be getting themselves another warmer for another area of their homeand/or buying gifts.
I usually ask the hostess if they want to play a game because some people don't like them. I also ask the hostess if they have a table for me to set up or if they would like me to bring one. And, I let them know that I will need a space to write up the orders.
My scent samples are in a brief case size scrap tote in two trays. Guests usually pass those trays around the room or gather together to smell them. I give them wish lists so they can write down their favorites before I write up their order forms. When the guest is paying I ask them if they would like to have a home, office, or basket party.
I point out our catalog page that has our special package deals. I mention the business opportunity. I don't do these things in one continuous presentation but rather mention them throughout the party while guests are checking out the products. Oh, and I mention that I can do fundraisers too.
Once the orders are taken I ask the group if they are done looking and I start putting my stuff away. I thank everyone and the hostess and say my goodbyes. I usually don't close the show at that time because the guests are usually there longer than I am so there is no time to sit with the hostess. It's usually about 1.5 hours if the guests arrive on time.
I'm sure I'm missing some points here but that's the basics.Edited by: LorettaA

Hi Olive! One of my favorite things about doing parties is that there is no "right" way to do it. Each time I reflect on a party I learn something new for next time, and I also find that no matter how nervous I might have felt, it always goes smoother than I thought it would!
I agree with Loretta...each party seems to take on a life of its own, depending on who is participating. I have found that the easiest way to make sure everyone enjoys themselves and minimize stress on myselfis to really keep it simple, and not be too attached tosticking to a detailed plan. I have a little set of notecards with the key things I want to definitely mention. I know demonstrators who hardly say a word during demonstrations...it really depends on the situation. Some parties seem toprefer it that way. Of course, as you get more experiencedyou will figure out what you want and need to say to sell more product.
One thing that has helped me is to remember that want this to look easy! The guests are potential future demonstrators! That puts making mistakes into a whole new light.....you are letting them know they don't have to be perfect to do this!
I have also found that bringing minimal product works best.....that way I always have something new to presentat a party I might have booked from aprevious party, and no one has seen everything! I can get my whole show in and out in two trips to the car.
I learnedsome of this from trial and error, and also the company, my sponsor, and fellow demonstrator friendsprovide as much or as little guidance as I need as I go along!! You will definitely not be alone in your journey!Edited by: CandleClaire

The best part about doing a candle party is that the candles sell themselves so you don't have to do a whole lot of talking. Everybody has their own way of doing their parties and if you decide to take this route you will fall in to your own routine quickly.
I think with everybody's busy schedules now a days it is great to do a quick home party rather than dragging it out over a 2 hour party. If people know they are not going to be required to be there 2 - 3 hours then you might have a better turn out. Then of course once they get there and they see how much fun it is then they will stick around and feel good about being there.
I would suggest to have at least 12 jars there. A few food scents, clean smell, floral, etc. However, if you can invest in more I would definitely have more. People like to walk out with their goodies if at all possible.
It really depends on what you are will to invest time wise and money wise. The most important thing is to have fun!
Good luck with your decision!

Yes, I agree with Marli. The candles really do sell themselves. That's part of the reason that I chose the company and product that I did, because of the quality and the fact that it is consumable.
I don't do any formal presentation at my parties. I utilize an openhouse format. People can drop in anytime during the 2-3 hour window and I visit with small groups or one on one and talk with them about the company, products, and specials. They can stay for 5 minutes or for a couple hours. I don't play games. It's just like a bunch of friends hanging around the kitchen table, enjoying each other's company and smelling some amazing fragrances. Generally, I hardly have to say anything because everyone else is talking about their favorite scents, etc. Everyone is just having fun!
I do give gifts for guests and people who bring guests and I offer a booking incentive.
This is what I do and how I train my team. It works for me, but maybe you'll have some other ideas that you can implement. I LOVE what I do and have been selling just about two year now. I do understand about talking in front of the group and honestly, if you knew me, you'd be shocked I'm even doing this, as I swore I would never do one of these "party plan things". LOL - just shows you what happens when you find a product that you love and are passionate about!
As for the samples, I keep it very simple. I have a small display and then my samples scents. I've had people comment on how I don't have loads of stuff to bring in. They can see that it's easy and portable.
Hope that helps and keep the questions coming!

I think candle party is one of the easiest parties to do. I only talk for about 10-15 minutes and that's it. My last two parties I didn't even say anything. I had candles on my table, and scent samplers placed around. They just went and smelled scents and one party was close to a $1000 and the other was close to $800 I am just now closing a book party which is siting at $571 and we are still waiting on 1 or maybe 2 more orders. I am with Gold Canyon.

Hi Olive, I was really nervous about my first party too. But it was so much FUN. I knew all of these ladies, so our party ran a little long, but still my sales were $444 with 5 attendees, and two web orders, one recruit and two bookings.
I'm really lovin' Gold Canyon.
