We can't go into much detail b/c of a conf agreement, but I can tell you they pay on time, are great to work with, and the work is rewarding and thought provoking.
It's not a really hard job, but it does take some computer experience, the ability to talk to people on the phone and to write well.

Yea! I heard from them...ready to start the first step in writing the letters to congress. It's been quite some time since I have written a professional letter. I hope they like what I write! Now just to have some un-interrupted time to do this by Monday.
Wish me luck!!

I got the assessment email today as well. I had a few questions for those who work there already, so just skip topics that you cannot discuss.
Firstly, can two people in the same household work there?
- Is it VOIP based, or does it require a landline?
- Are you paid for training?
- Do people generally react well when you call them? I've never worked outbound, so I'm a bit nervous!
- About how long do calls last?
THANKS!

I'm not sure if two people from the same household can work there or not. That is a question that you can ask HR.
Currently, any phone will work. I don't recommend a cell though as reception can be poor and the cost high.
VIOP is fine. There are changes to softwarein the works that require a USB headset, but that is yet to come.
Training is unpaid. It usually last around 4-6 hours if I remember right. It's well worth it though.
Most generally calls go well. Of course you will have some that are simply not interested or hang up but that doesn't happen often.
Depending on the person you're talking to, most calls last around 5-15 minutes. I've had some talkers though and been on the phone for more than a half hour. It happens, but not often.
I've been with OP for 2 years and really enjoy it. I worked outbound calls before (upselling) and really didn'tlike it, but this is different.
They pay on time and well for a WAH company. I can't make what I do per hour working outside the house in my area that is for sure.
HTH answer your questions. Goof Luck on the Assessment!

Wow! I just sent in my writing assessment and I'm not sure if they are all the same, but it was tough!
I had a real hard time and took me over3 hours to write and the directions said to not spend more than an hour writing. I had a hard time keeping it short and sweet per instructions.
There were too many details to get my point across, I found my self getting too detailed and had to edit and rewrite a bunch of stuff.
Maybe this job is not for me. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley6.gif
Good luck to everyone else...I don't think I made the cut.

Hello! I applied for this position and did the writing sample. Can anyone tell me how long it normally takes to hear back from them after the writing assessment? Also, can anyone tell me how much they are paid? Is it hourly, or paid per assignment? Any other information would be so helpful. I really hope I get this. It would be a perfect job for me.

I think most of the answers to your questions are on their website. FAQ's.
I heard back within a couple of days after submitting my writing samples. I guess it depends on how many applicants they have.
There are not many postings about OnPoint because of the confidentiality clause. Let me just say the pay is more than most WAH jobs. Even though the calls are outbound, it is definitely not sales.
Sorry...I don't want to jinx my chances by saying too much.

I acutally thought the subject was pretty difficult for me due to the fact the subject in question was pretty much a done deal, and I had too much to say in a short letter, which is what they wanted- a short letter.
Maybe I will try again in a few months, if I can.

Oh no...I understood what you meant. I was just letting you know that I felt bad that you didin't get accepted either. Times are hard now and I feel bad for anyone that gets a reject letter.
I agree...time to move on. I'll find something. It's been really hard though. I'm trying to get some bills paid off in a short time because I want to start school in the fall.
My husbands truck payment was done in Jan. so we were going to send that extra money towards CC's, but then all of a sudden I lost 4 jobs at once due to the economy. I went from making $1600 a month to $800!!
I have been applying like crazy and have not found anything. I'm sure I will.

One good thing is that business is booming for them now with the new administration, so it may be the only place to get a job soon...lol. According to Moveon, the corporations are spending $45,000,000 to counteract (via lobbying like OP) all of Obama's plans, from health care reform, to auto emission reductions, to his corporate tax for companies that take jobs overseas. (causing us to lose jobs - do you see the irony in that?). OP will get a big chunk of that $45 million I bet. Money talks in Washington.

Because it's the corporations who pay for right wing lobbying zaksdarlin (member_profile.asp?PF=32174&FID=4)- and will do whatever is necessary for the almighty dollar regardless of the environment, the uninsured, the jobless, etc. It's all about money and p*** on anything else. Okay, I generally don't comment on things like this.......HOWEVER for the Newbies on the board I will.
OnPoint is a good job. It pays well. The fact that you can set your own hours around your day is wonderful. The pay is fair.
It does NOT matter who you voted for.....or.....if you are a Republican....Democrat.....or WHATEVER..........the issues that are worked on affect your everyday life. People are so concerned with ....do they lean to the left.....do they lean to the right.........the issue is the issue.........
AS LONG AS THEY LEAN TOWARDS YOUR ACCOUNT AND MAKE THAT DEPOSIT.......that shoud be your main concern.
HONESTLY.......I don't work jobs that I am uncomfortable with.....and this job......if anything.....makes me feel like I am helping AMERICANs understand what is going on around them! SIMPLE.
P.S.
I Voted For OBAMA. Nobody is perfect, and he will make plenty of mistakes, and he should be called to the carpet when he does!Edited by: GodsLittleGirl

Yup, money is all that matters in this world. That is why we are in the predicament we are in now.
And to "act" the part shows lack of integrity and is very hypocritical.
I know those of you who work there are going to "advocate" for it and that is great. Good luck to you all. I am not advocating for the very same people who ruined America across the globe.

meredecing.......everything is not black and white.......did you ever think about two things....
1. If there is something you are uncomfortable with...then you can opt out of it...they wont make you work it.
2.If you are against an issue.....and you spend all day informing people about the issue......whether they write a letter for or against it......you just raised their awareness of the issue, and the fact that it is getting ready to hit the table.
These are two things to think about.......I now have to leave this convo.....don't want to breach my contract.

Well, don't mean to sound negative or rude, but this company can keep their stinking job to themselves. I resented the fact that I invested my time working very hard to pass the 1st assesment, which I did, and then received the hiring papers to give out all my personal info, and then received afterwards my 2nd assessment and when I completed this 2nd assessment, I was told that I did not pass and could not be considered for any work, so basically you can conclude that I wasted my time and hard earned efforts for nothing. The way I feel, they shouldn't be having us signing all the hiring papers which includes all sensitive information, and then submit you the 2nd assessment afterwards, then if you don't pass the 2nd assessment, you are not hired, disqualified. I really resented this, and for all I care, the heck with them. Why waste my time needlessly. That's what I hate about employers and companies that hire homeworkers and just give me and others the run around, basically getting jerked around.
Lastly, I voted, not say for who, but I personally think that all these politicians are full of garbadge, crap and bull. Politicians are the biggest liars in the world, thus, I don't put my trust in nobody, but I do vote as being an American and I only strictly put all my faith in the lord, the one and only because America is simply going down the drain, falling into pieces. The nerve of these companies outsourcing all the jobs to overseas and not caring one single bit about us Americans about having jobs. This is really absurd and ridiculous. Basically, we are no longer the land of opportunities. May God help us all!
I needed share how I feel becuase this pitiful and stricken economy has really affected me very much as well as a whole bunch of others and we are basically almost in a depression, rather than just a recession.Edited by: dataworkermm

zaksdarlin:
You're comments about sitting at your computer unable to take a break are a bit off base. In the timeclock there is a break option, simply click it and take a break. If you're clocked in, on paid time, yes they expect you to be sitting at your computer working. I don't see where that is an issue. If I were payingpeople to do work, well, I would want them to actually be doing work for the hours I'm paying them.
As for the carpul tunel, well, most computer jobs that require writing, typing a great deal have that side effect. That's not OP's fault that you must ype your letters. Would you rather hand write and scan in?
As for working when you want, OP lets YOU set your schedule. Other than calling times (which are mandated by the government. Seriously, you want to call someone in the middle of the night?) you are free to complete your off phone work any time of day or night. As long as you meet the turnaround times on things. (which is a full day!)I don't see where they are so unflexible, making you sit for 8 hours. (A noraml shift is only 5 to meet the minimums). If you did for 8 hours, that was the schedule you set for yourself.
As far as not being able to depend on it for long term, I've been with OP for 2 years, and yes it is project based. They tell you this upfront OVER AND OVER on the first overview call.
Left Wing, Right Wing... Does it really matter? If you don't agree with a project you can decline to work it. You do not have to accept every project that is given to you. OP works primarly in the middle, but if a campaign offends you or you're not comfortable, a simple email will fix it. You don't have to work it.
Yes, OP and many other jobs arenot for everyone, but ifone isn't for you, then you just move on. I don't see where bashing a company is actually helping you out any.

It does matter to some people who are passionate about the issues and I have been with them for over 2 years and they are strictly right wing. I don't like it, but it's a job.

Left Wing, Right Wing... Does it really matter?
If you are a voter, yes it should matter. Especially if you are advocating against what or whom you voted for.
I am not bashing any company. I am simply letting others know that this job is not for everyone and to be aware of what you are getting into before you do apply. This was not meant to be a bash OP party. This was simply meant to warn others that this is completely right wing, which may not be the cup of tea a democratic voter would want to drink out of. Yes, they pay well when there are active campaigns, but you never know when you will be out of work.
But now there are no campaigns, so how long do you actually wait for another one to come around?

I think they will be pretty busy with the new administration. I see today Obama is taking on the tobacco companies (yay !!!) and OP is already on that one. As long as we have a prez who is not afraid to take on corporate interests, the corporations will be dishing out tons of money for lobbying. So I'm sure there will be plenty of work for a long time.

When a project ends, OP does their best to make the down time minimal. Having worked for them for around 2 years, I will wait till the next project comes along.
Most times, it isn't very long at all. But again, the work is project based and revolves around what happens in Congress. We are all aware up front that the work is project based.

Well I would imagine if YOU YOURSELF are completely right or left wing, then maybe working in the middle would bother you! I myself have been with OP for a very long time -- and Frankly, myself as well as many others, voted for Obama! I AM A DEMOCRAT, so dont ever say that democrats need not apply!! I am sorry you were offended by the work that is done at OP -- Number ONE gladysathome, you just breached your conf agreement by posting about a client, Number two - if you dont like it FINE! You can "WARN" everyone all you want -- but if people are smart they will see for themselves! It is absolutely not for everyone, I hear that over and over and over - and it is absolutely true!
Not one person working for this company is totally bipartisan, but the company as a whole IS! I look at it as I am helping people to understand what is going on out threre - no matter what they may decide to do... This is a CONTRACT job! If I hired a plumber to do a job, I would expect him to do the job, period, as it is layed out in his contract... If you dont like to work, of course this is not for you! This is actual work, and I think it is told to you when you do the overview call (at least it was to me)...
OPA cannot control congress, nor the decisions made by our clients! SO down time will come, and I know that they told you that!
And it irks me to no end to hear that WE lobby congress - WE do not!! I cannot go any further without breaching conf, which I refuse to do, because I can say that I DO LOVE the work that I do!!!
TO THE NEW PEOPLE - hang tight and don't lose faith, this happens when you work in real life things that effect every single person in this country!! don't let the posts on this board that do not have a true and concrete understanding of the situation sway your thoughts about OPA; as they are upfront, pay well and will contact you, no one owes anyone anything, it is contract work, if you worked until the project ended and you have received the updates today you are still a contractor with OPA!! If you are concerned, reach out to your tl or the recruiting staff - they have ALWAYS been there for me, and they will be for you as well!!

It is a good company as far as pay. It is also right wing lobbying no matter how anyone spins the words. If you're passionate about issues and don't agree with corporate lobbying, then it's not for you. They work for corporations to get issues passed through congress always on the side of the corporations. I have yet to see a project that leans 'left' or anywhere near the middle.
wahmomofsix
06-22-2009, 01:27 PM
Really? Because the last project I was on was neither left nor right -- but ALL about the advocate! Low and behold, the Advocate WON! I am very passionate about what I do with OP, that is why I have been here so long! Sure, some things may lean to the right -- but the republicans are the ones with money lining their pockets! THAT is why so many of them can afford to hire firms like OPA! Regardless, the company as a whole is a bipartisan firm - period... Everyone is entitled to their opinions, however, I strongly suggest people looking check it out for themselves... I thank the lord every day that I did!!!
wahmomofsix
06-22-2009, 03:01 PM
Another thing I wanted to add - I began thinking about it, and I can think of at LEAST 3 issues that have been very left-sided opposed to "leaning to the right" -- which brings me to something else... you have no idea how many projects go on while you working on the one, no one does -- therefore I am sure that there have been MANY I dont know about as well!! What we do at OP revolves around people, period. Yes clients hire our firm to do a job, however, in the yearsI have worked here, I have seen these issues affect so many people and I have been thanked a million times over for what we do -- so no bones about it, you dont like it, I do... If someone is interested they should inquire, they may love it or they may hate it!! Edited by: wahmomofsix

And which corporations paid for the issues that lean to the left? Trust me, if it is a corporation that's footing the bill, then they are the ones who benefit no matter how it is spun. Corporations always lean 'right'. I can't think of one project in over 2 years that could have been considered a left wing project. Anyone else? If you're calling on behalf of "XYZ corporation" (pharma, auto industry, tobacco, etc) then it's right wing. I doubt Obama used OP, he seemed to go straight to the source for donations and support.

All I can say is it doesn't sound like meredecing minded collecting the money from these corporations for the last two years nor working such "right" winged campaigns.
If you're so against something you believe to be true, then why continue to work there?
I can't seem to understand why if someone is so unhappy with the scope of their job, they would work there for 2 years as meredecing says they have.

Some folks have mouths to feed. smileys/smiley2.gif All should be aware of what they're walking into. It's right wing corporate lobbying no matter how it comes packaged. When you're offered a project, the description is vague. You take it and then find you're working for another corporate entity. According to Moveon, corporate America is spending $45,000,000 to counteract Obama's agenda. So if anyone wants a cut of that $45,000,000, now is the time to grab it.

Folks - If you are interested in an opportunity with a company who pays well, and on time each week -- if YOU need to feed your family, etc... Just check it out for yourself!! In MY PERSONAL opinion I would rather be paid hourly, KNOW for sure I will have the hours when there are projects than be paid per min on the phone and pray that I can find 30 min shifts or other work...

Not warning anyone wahmomofsix (member_profile.asp?PF=66354&FID=4) of anything except not to walk into the job blindfolded. They are somewhat vague on the hiring page and also vague when offered a project. You don't really know 'who you're working for' until you accept the project. They 'fly under the radar' as they say. People shouldn't take the post under the vale of secrecy.

I just started with this company and finished my first project. So I cannot speak to different ones or anything. I can say that my first one was pleasant and I felt like I was helping people, which is a great thing I think. I do not like the time without a project but I think that they were honest about that on the phone when I did the call with all the new people. I dont think anyone should go into any job blindfolded. I do remember hearing that you dont have to accept a project and can be asked to be taken off of one if you find you do not agree with it, am I wrong about that?

If you decide you're not comfortable with a project you can decline it or ask to be removed from it.

I work for Onpoint and enjoy the job. The people in charge have all been professional and helpful. The pay is always on time and I am completely satisfied with the pay per hour.
I have done this since Feb and have never had troubleexceeding the expectations. I have telemarketing experience but no solid writing background or prior political knowlege. I am gaining great writing experience from this job and learning a lot, so I do consider that a benefit.
Whether you are for or against something is not as important as reminding the powers that be, that we the people are watching.

I was with this company for a brief time, and it was a very disappointing experience. Everything went just fine in training with their dialer set up, but then when I started to try to do the work, I could not log in to the dialer. I reported this to my supervisor, and she said she would find out what was wrong and would help me. No help was forthcoming. The second day, the same thing happened. I contacted my supervisor again, and this time I got a scolding like I was a little kid! All I was trying to do was to earn the money, rather than sit there with the time clock running and me not being able to produce.
I can't believe that a company with so many at-home agents doesn't have a single tech support person to help somebody who is having a problem. Alpine Access had a tech support team; other companies had a go-to person (or several) for any issues. I even asked if the numbers could be provided to me on an excel spreadsheet, so that I could earn my pay, and of course that was not possible.
By what was supposed to have been my third day on the phone, I had a new supervisor. At least the first woman was nice most of the time, if ineffective. The new one was horrible- brusque, rude, expected you to be sitting at your computer all day even when you were not scheduled to work in order to attend her team meetings that she would pull out of her hat like pop quizzes, with five minutes notice. She wasn't able to help me, either, despite me having created and sent several screen shots to her of my computer screen.
So, good luck to all- I was really hoping that I had found a home. The whole experience with this company was a bummer! smileys/smiley21.gif

Lowcarblover, I take it has been a while since you worked with them? Becasue we no longer have supervisors, we have team leads (totally different) also, they have a dedicated tech person who can log into your computer to see what is going on and help you get on the road to working! I am sorry that your experience was bad, but many things have changed since you contracted with them.
I believe that I read a blog almost identical to your post some where -- it really indicates to me that you have not worked with them in some time, if I am mistaken, I appologize. But I had a lot of tech issues when I changed computers several months ago, and the girl who does the tech stuff spent nearly an hour inside my computer to resolve the issue, it was amazing!
Anyway, I know some people have had bad experiences, and that really sucks since some of us have had some great experiences! I think that the people who were rude and or ineffective are probably long gone by now, as I said previously, I have been with them for some time, and I have seen some bad eggs come and go -- I hope that you have found something that works for you! I have had a great experience also. The money really came in handy. I completed my first project and passed on the second one. Just wanted the break. OnPoint is probably not for everyone, but no WAH job is. People just have to find what works for them. I still have other eggs and had an interview recently with another company. We'll see where that goes.
Hopefully, I can stay with OnPoint for a long time. I love getting paid every week and the pay rate is great!! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
