Does anyone know about this herb? A client had gall bladder surgery last week. Her DR told her when whe went home that she might want to use something to help her "movements" along. She told him that she uses the herbal colon cleanse & loves it! He told her not to use any product with senna in it because it turns your colon black & that is not good. Well, I did a search on Arbonne & senna is in the HCC. I sent an email to Arbonne, but no answer yet. Anyone know anything about this???????

Would it simply be black from "staining" it? I thought of the crayon sienna and it is dark. There are many things that dye or stain, think tea stained napkins, etc. I am eager to hear what Arbonne says. Please post when you get a response.

I thought the same thing & I told her to ask the DR why it is bad for the colon to be black when she goes for her follow up!

I hate to say it, but I really think for the most part that DR.s use the drugs that are pushed the most on them by the drug reps. They are wined & dined & educated by these people. To research natural remedies would take time & effort on their part & I don't think that happens much, they are busy & take the path of least resistance.

Hi-
Check this out:
http://www.drugs.com/MTM/senna.html

It says prolonged use of senna can be dangerous.
It also says it causes pigmentation of the colon, which ,I imagine, would not be a good idea if you have any sort of intestinal problem.

Also, since the FDA doesn't regulate supplements, how can you be sure of the purity of the source of the senna, the dosage, etc.?

Just because something is "natural" doesn't make it healthy.

I did read that about prolonged use, I'm just wondering about Arbonne's response. I DO equate Arbonne with quality & purity. I am not sure about the amount of senna used in the HCC, so I'm anxious to hear that, too.

Here is the response from Arbonne:
Hello Beverly,

Thank you for your e-mail.

There are certain ingredients in the Herbal Colon Cleanse that have raised various concerns. These mainly include Senna and Cascara Sagrada. Both have raised the question if these herbs can cause dependence. When standardized herbs are used in large amounts the body can become dependent on these herbs. We use a very small amount of the powdered bark and leaf of these herbs to achieve a very mild and non-habit forming effect. The main effect of this product is due to the combination of several effective herbs. Keep in mind, we always recommend checking with a physician before taking any supplement. If you have further questions or concerns, please feel free to contactus.

Regards,
