Myself and another wahm'er looked at this listing from Craig's:
Do you have customer service experience and can type at least 20 words per minute? If so, you may be a great candidate for Insurance Cupid’s Customer Service Representative. Insurance Cupid is hiring a Customer Service Representative to answer live chats received from their web site at www.InsuranceCupid.com Other duties may include researching competitor web sites and assisting in researching and writing insurance articles.
This is a work from home position so you MUST have a reliable computer and internet access.
No experience necessary. Training will be provided.
craigslist-work-at-home-jobs-1 How To Apply - If you are interested, please email your resume to jobs@insurancecupid.com
Sincerely,
Insurance Cupid
Matching People with Prices they Love
* Location: New York
* Compensation: $8/hr - $12/hr
* This is a contract job.
After she contacted me via email to let me know to be careful on this ad, I went and applied so I could see what she was talking about.
Email response I got back:
<blockquote>
Thank you for your interest in Insurance Cupid. The position is still OPEN.
For further consideration we ask that you go to
www.insurancecupid.com and complete a free, fast, secure no obligation
auto insurance quote so you can better understand our platform.
After you have completed, your quote, please go to www.insurancecupid.com/job_survey.html to answer three quick questions.
Finally, we will be reviewing application for those who have completed the steps above over the next two weeks.
Sincerely,
Insurance Cupid
Matching People with Prices they Love
</blockquote>
So I went through the application process and applied for a free quote. I didn't pay for anything (although it encouraged me to buy car insurance) and it wasn't a requirement from InsuranceCupid.com from what I could see.
What may make this a scam classified on Craig’s is if they NEVER intend to hire a Chat Customer Service Rep. from home, and only put out this ad to gain affiliate revenue from each person who signs up for a free quote.
I haven't heard anything back yet. It could mean one of two things. They are bombarded with applicants. They are doing just what I mentioned that is possible (no intent to hire). My thoughts: I don't think its necessary to require people to sign up, go through that simple process just to see how it's done, and ONLY to be considered for the job.
Why? I feel most can easily be trained what goes on just by InsuranceCupid walking people through, instead of requiring them to sign up.

I think its a ploy to gain customers. Don't be surprised if you receive a rejection letter in a week or two. I could be wrong though.

I do not think this is a real job. I have never heard of any job requiring you to signup for insurance quotes and answer a survey. Its really silly. I mean who does'nt know how to fill a form on a website??
As you said, I think they are trying to get people to signup, so they can gain affiliate revenue.
shame on them!

Yea we posted all this in another posting - I posted the exact same reply I had received from them wanting me to get an insurance quote and do a survey.
I think we have already figuredout it's pretty much a scam lolhttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif

Sometimes old threads get pushed back and they don't get noticed, so others post the same. Happens all the time.

What's sad is these people who do things like this to folks like us just looking for home jobs!
I didn't do the free quote - had no desire to give them more personal info than what they got on a resume http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gifEdited by: Juliabelle

Yea I know what you mean - I finally took my full name off my resume yrs ago and my street address. All they get now is my first and last name, city & state, phone number and email - that's all they need to contact me. They don't need to know what street I live on! And they get enough personal stuff as it is already! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif
But you are right - why do that to folks and have them send in their resumes when they probably have no intention of even looking at them - but just trying to drum up more insurance quotes and business!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif

Hey guys I did a live chat with these guys here is what we talked about, tell me what you think?
Matthew: How may I help you today?
you: Hello there! I have heard that you all are looking for some people to work with you. I was an insurance agent for 10 years! What exactly are you looking for and what does the job entail?
Matthew: Looking for a live chat rep - just like me. Just to help people start quotes.
you: Do you need to drum up business or is it people who are already on here and have questions?
Matthew: This helps get people into the funnel.
you: Also what are you looking for part time, full time?
you: In to the funnel? what do you mean?
Matthew: Full time. Into the quoting funnel. Entering their zip to start the process. Reassuring them that the site is safe, etc.
you: I see so you are not going out and getting business just helping those who are on here. Like a broker kind of
you: What hours are you looking for?
Matthew: Correct - we are open to ideas on how to get people to the site - we write content for the search engines to find us.
Matthew: I'm not sure what hours they are looking for - send a resume to jobs@insurancecupid.com
you: ok thank you! I will look in to it!

I found an email (through another Craig's posting) and contacted a guy by the name of Matthew. So I inquired about the job I did apply for and all he said is they are processing apps.
I "think" I found him on LinkedIn too ... "if" the same person, he seems to be working at insurance.com. The site at www.insurance.com (http://www.insurance.com) and www.insurancecupid.com (http://www.insurancecupid.com) look a lot alike!
I'm not sure what to make of it. smileys/smiley5.gif

I would say it's a scam. This is what I posted on another forum:
Hi all,
I feel like I should post this because I know a little about it and I know how people scam others.
I came across this board called Black Hat World. Now I don't advocate
any of these tactics cause it involves very unethical methods for all
types of stuff like finding cracks for software (basically getting it
free), getting huge traffic, and just tricking folks for all kinds of
reasons. I occasionally go there to gain tips on getting real traffic,
cause there are those posts that offer real help without really doing
anything that would cause anyone to question your intent.
So what does this have to do with working from home. A lot. Cause I
know my main source for finding jobs is on Craigslist. Here a thread
posted there that talks about tricking folks with jobs.
CL Post (http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/making-money/64101-my-personal-method-make-300-day-cl-shoot-yourself-if-does-not-work-you.html)
The person who posted that was a Jr.VIP member. I just want people to
be careful cause sometimes, you really can never tell with these
postings. And sometimes when I get spammed, I'm ticked off cause they
got my email but you know what, I'm even more ticked off cause I wasted
my time applying. I can get another email address but my time is just
lost. All for what... a pawn in someone else's web.
Take for instance this posting:
http://savannah.craigslist.org/ofc/1110544665.html
You would never think it's possibly a scam. But I copy and pasted it in
google and put craigslist as the site and came up with about 15 other
postings with the exact same wording, all in different cities.
I'm just tired of people preying on the desperation of those really
needing work and using that to feed their own greed or worse, just
cause they have nothing better to do.
It sickens me...http://www.workplacelikehome.com/forum/images/smilies/Frustrated.gif
