Wow, just got the latest email from O**S. No mention of the work that we were supposed to get last week. Looks even more like we no longer have our jobs with this co.smileys/smiley29.gif

Yeah, you're right the email from JF is very unclear and vague. Not much to it and no darn mention of work they said we would get by now. I didn't even know an email came, until I checked this board.

Oh well, like someone else said, I'm going to move on now from this. And if they send us an email alerting us to work, great. If not, then I will have already pretty much closed the chapter on this. It was nice while it lasted.

I did get some work from another coding co. I work for and made a decent amount of $$$ from that. But their projects are so few and far between, that who knows when I'll see anything else from them. They went through what O@@S is going through now, but at least I know I still have a job with them.

Well, looks like it's official. We have all been terminated. Just received the documents from Rick in my email. It was the saddest email I ever wanted to receive. I sure will miss this job. Already am missing it. Had hoped that maybe we would be able to stay on. But looks like that's not going to happen.

Yep - got mine not too long ago as well. This is sad - guess the only thing to do now is to attempt to apply for unemployment benefits - we have an official termination letter now. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif

since we were considered employees with them are we eligible to file for unemployment.?

I don't think we can file for unemployment. I think because the terms of our employment was that there was never any guarantee of hours.....not exactly temporary but more like on-call.

And since there hasn't been work in MONTHS....your benefit would be x% of nothing.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I too am very disappointed, they made it seem like the check project was going to last for a long time....even setting up training sessions about a week before the dry up in work.....very strange!

I just finished filing for unemployment benefits. We were considered employees even though we did piece work. I'm giving it a try anyway, it couldn't hurt. I was just waiting for an official notification from ONSS. The worse that will happen is they'll say I'm not eliglbe.

I filed online shortly after I recevied the email that I had been let go. Now I just need to wait for a rep to call me and give them the additional info they were looking for. The last paycheck most should have received from them would have been in Feb. for work done the end of Jan. So, we did work within the last 6 mos. Plus I worked other office jobs in my state. And I'm pretty sure they calculate all employment worked over the last 6 months, at least in NC they do.

I wasted no time, because when they had work this was a large portion of my income. Even though I knew there was a STRONG possibility this would happen, I'm still in shock now that it's been made official. Being with a company for more than 5 yrs. takes some time to get over, once you've been officially terminated.

I'm really saddened by this. Not only did I lose this job but another job (unrelated) said that most likely we will be losing our jobs with them too.

I wish everyone the best of luck...and it was really nice working with all of you at ONSS. And for the ones that code for the other companies, lets pray that work will be coming soon!

I wonder if we can apply with the company that bought out ONSS?

Oh well, it was good while it lasted. It was a fun five years, I really enjoyed working for ONSS. What I'm really missing the most is the money. I am working for ChaCha and Quicktate, but the money does not compare to what I was making.
I am also working for another coding co, but the work is sporadic. Oh well, you know what they say, when one door closes another one opens. Let's hope that one pays well. lol

I think we may both work for the last standing coding co. that has very sporadic work. The last time I worked for them was last month. I'm waiting on my check for the end of last month's pay period. It's going to be decent money, but who knows how long it will take for us to get that amount of work again. I'm kind of hoping maybe they'll pick up that one good job that ONSS had us doing. That would be nice. Now they are the only company I watch my email box for projects. Everyday I hope and pray something comes, and every day NOTHIN'

I didn't even have to open them to know I was probably terminated. I went ahead and applied for unemployment. I too need this money soooo bad. I worked for ONSS for almost 6 years and they along with the other coding co left were my major chunk of income the last couple of years.

I first started doing coding in the summer of 2003, by the end of 2003 I was working for 5 different coding companies and was loving it. I was always busy and when one company didn't have work another one did.

I really don't want to have to go back and find a job in the "real world". I have gotten spoiled working from home for almost 7 years. Working when I wanted, could stay in my pajamas all day if I wanted, was here whenever my kids needed me.

I work for Ch***a and Quicktate but am in no way making enough money to pay the bills. My ex quit his job again so of course no child support, not that it was ever steady and reliable to begin with but with 3 kids to raise it is definitely needed.

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed that hopefully the other coding company will get tons of work for all of us soon.....

I remember being so busy trying to keep up with all the coding compainies I worked for just trying not to get deactivated there was so much work! Now I know of only two that still uses U.S. workers.

If you all made steady income from ONSS, you should have no problem getting unemployment, because we received W-2's from them. I won't be filing because even though I will miss them and I loved to work for them..they weren't my main source of income.

It's said that the US companies have to out source work just to make a profit.

About the 401k....does the acct balance have to be a certain amount before we can roll it over? Just wondering if it would just be best to cash it out if the amount isn't really a significant amount of $$....

Woo hoo. I applied for unemployment benefits on Wed. right after they sent our termination letter and dumped us. And today I received the papers in the mail that I'm eligible for benefits. I will be getting a bank card with my benefits on it next week. I'm so happy something good finally came out of all of this. smileys/smiley20.gifsmileys/smiley32.gif
