Hello again -


When you charge for shipping, is it taxable? I have heard from some they add shipping before and tax the whole amount. Some add shipping after, so it doesn't get taxed. I had never really thought about it before. I know this is an odd question, but since I am really just getting started, I would really like to know.

When you look at the order form, it has:


Subtotal:


Shipping and handling:


Taxable total:


Sales tax:


Order total:


Personally, I do not charge shipping/handling on any orders I receive or make them pay for mailing it to them.

I went to a Jewelry party two weeks ago and my friends didn't like to be charged S&H for their orders.


I don'tcharge S&H on any orders. I personally don't like to pay for that fee so, I absorb the expense. I let clients know that I'm paying for their S&H cost and they thank me for saving them money.


I know some consultants that charge very little for S&H and I think that is OK. Some clients don't mind paying $1or $2.But others think they can go to a store and buy without the added expense.

I have everything shipped to me and then Ideliver it , unless my customers are out of state. I deliver to try to sell more and book more. I don't charge shipping either.

I don't charge shipping to any of my customers. This is a write-off on my taxes as a business expense. Also, if they order from me and are out of town, I pay the postage. I look at it as they could get it from someone local, but they chose doing business with me.
