Corny, selling life and health insurance sux dude, don't mislead people.I work in insurance and have seen a ton of people who do this and it's a tough living. I bet at least 95% of life/health agents go onto to sell something else, in order to survive.

I agree, insurance is an awesome residual income where you can continue to get paid for the service that you sold annually rather than get paid once and that's it.

Residuals are nice, but you don't get residuals on every product. Sometimes you get your commission and that's it. Regarding life premium rates, the best deals will always be in term. I know agents like to sell universal for investment reasons and to give a payment option, but you can give a Mom and Dad a heck of a lot more when they invest in term for 20-30 years. By the way, go with a A+ or greater rated company. Ask this question, how old are the kids? Do you want to provide them with a college education? If something happens, a tragedy....should the home be paid off etc? At least provide enough in dollars and years 10-20-30 to cover through the kids college age. By the way, for those of you looking at this career......consider the LTC market....those products provide residual income for sure.

I am intrigued by your post. I left my job at an insurance company over a year ago. My P&C license has been expired for about a year. I don't have an appointment by a company - I believe I have to have a company appointment in order to keep my license active. Is this true for you, and how do you get a company to appoint you?
