I no longer wish to use PayPal as a Method Of Payment. I have heard of others using Green Dot Debit Cards and ProPay. Any suggestions!

Thanks!

Green Dot is aprepaid credit card system. eBay does not accept them.
Since I last posted the above question I have opened a Google Checkout account and currently looking into a Merchart account as I plan on starting an ecommerce website.

No, you can't use Google Checkout on eBay. They are strictly PayPal only. Money Orders & Checks have been discontinued as well.
Most small sellers are not very happy and arenow boycotting eBay and experimenting with other Online Auction venues. I'm not leaving eBay yet but I, too, will be testing the waters.

I would recommend a merchant account with either Plimus.com, ccnow.com, or 2checkout.com. They are all great PayPal alternatives that also enable you to still accept PayPal as a form of payment. I use Plimus myself and have used 2checkout in the past. 2checkout doesn't support the content of my recently published book so I no longer use their services.

As regards ebay, the only alternatives allowed are ProPay and a merchant account.

What’s changing with payments on eBay?

Beginning in late October 2008, checks and money orders will no longer
be allowed as payment methods on eBay. All items appearing on eBay.com
must be paid for using either:
<ul> PayPal (funded by PayPal account balance, credit card, debit card,
bank account, PayPal Pay Later, PayPal Buyer Credit or eBay gift
certificate) Credit or debit card payment to a seller (through a seller’s Internet merchant account) ProPay Payment upon pickup[/list]

In January 2009, all of the approved electronic payment methods will
be integrated into eBay checkout. For example, if a seller offers
credit or debit card as a payment option, buyers will be able to
directly enter their credit card information securely in eBay checkout
and their payment will be directly routed to the seller’s Internet
merchant account.

I have a green dot card and the only thing I don't like is that what you use it for gas like we usually do cuz thats really what I got it for when hubby needs $$ and forgot to ask for it. The gas pumps will decline it if it doesn't have at least $25 in it. I have never had any other problems with it tho.

Yes, there are other options to choose from other than PayPal. However, when you are thinking an alternative, consider the advantages of PayPal:

* PayPal is always free to use and setting up a PayPal account is very easy

* Quicker than sending money orders or checks and no waiting in line at the bank.

* Choose to fund payments with your credit card, debit card, or bank account

* PayPal is accepted by merchants around the world

I don't blame you for wanting a paypal alternative. I too have been researching this. So far I've come across Paymate. They seem to be good. I also want a merchant account but thought it'd be better for me to get a third party processor starting out, as it's cheaper.

I've never heard of green dot but this seems like something to research.

I agree. I have had a problem with PayPal. I am actually grateful to have a program that works so well like it does. I think that PayPal has made many companies increase sales over several years. I think that it makes people buy products faster due to the easy check out process that paypal has.

Many of the most popular online places such as Dell use PayPal as a payment method too.
