View Full Version : Economic Slump? No biggie.

I was just in another forum here talking about how this economic slump affects our business and I thought I'd post about it here too.
I've found 3 things to be true in our fabulous business when the economy is in the toilet:
1.</font> More people start looking for more reliable (relying on THEMSELVES) sources of income, additional income, and more freedom. That means recruiting is up!
2.</font> When checkbooks are tight, you'll find more hostesses who want to earn their products for free. You CAN'T tell me people don't want to host parties and possibly get all their Christmas shopping done for FREE or at a 40%-50% discount!
3.</font> When checkbooks are tight, TRUE, people eat out less, maybe they don't buy a new [pair of shoes... purse... insert your personal shopping vice here] every week, but they still care very much about those little things that make life more enjoyable. They'll still buy lotion and perfume. They'll still buy Home Collections (especially when they realize ours end up being 10-20 times cheaper than any candle out there!). If they're going to still buy candles anyway, of course they'll look at a better VALUE first. You can't get a better value than what we have.
Just a little rah rah for your afternoon :)
Also... here's something very interesting:</font>
I just received the monthly newsletter from one of my favorite financial gurus, Dave Ramsey, and he had VERY interesting (and comforting) things to say on the matter. Click the link below to read it (it's short) just skip everything and scroll down to the article called "DAVE'S THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ECONOMY" http://www.daveramsey.com/etc/newsletters/company/092608.cfm?ectid=cnl0809_05#1

Also, home fragrances can help lift your mood when everything else is down--particularly the fun and sunny scents, like grapefruit, pomegranate. Or the peppermint and eucalyptus ones. It's much cheaper than therapy.smileys/smiley17.gif

I have already had customers purchase Home collections for their Christmas gifts because they want something that isn't the same old, same old gift that gets given every year. So don't be afraid to bring up Christmas shopping already.

Oh, and let's face it and say it outloud right here, we want to generate business. Every Home collection that is given as a gift has the potential or future customers. Be sure your contact info is somehow attached to each and every warmer box, or inside the box or attached to the oils- whatever, get it on there. How else with the gift recipients know how to get replacement or new oils?

I give the Home Collections as wedding gifts too. I put my sticker on the warmer box. I also put in a catalog so they can order more when they run out. So far, everyone has been loving them--like Sandra said, because they aren't the same old wedding gift that everyone gives.

Oh, and I give a personal fragrance package (parfum, lotion, shower gel) at Bridal Showers and shower gel/lotion combo for Baby Showers. Not only does the guest of honor love it for its originality, but I get a lot of interest from the other shower guests. (I always take little sampler vials and business cards to these events as well.)
