View Full Version : Scent Sample Disapointment

Hi Girls

have recently mailed out scent samples to a bunch of friends that requested one. I got an email this morning with disapointment. She says "that is so unfair, I thought I was going to be able to burn it" As I grated them and put them in little sachet's for peoples cars.

Has anyone else ever had this kind of reaction to a "sample"?

Yes I have and it is dishearteneing to hear that. I try to emphasize the word SAMPLE.

I just explain that I cannot send out full votives from a business perspective, BUT if they like the smell of the sample, think what the actual candle smells like!

Also, when they join, the samples are an economical way to advertise.

Hope this helps.

Depending on how much you put in the packet, they can burn the shavings in a tart warmer.

Hi Jody,

Like barbara, I make my samples extra large so they can be
used as melts. (about 3 Tblsp. per baggie) I have a special
label I print off for them (the votive label in your back office) that
has the logo, the name of the scent, and underneath that I add
"Enjoy me in your melt warmer or as a car air freshener!" I
also have my contact info and some facts about the benefits of
soy/veg candles included..

Is this person interested in becoming a potential customer, or a
potential business partner? If she is considering this as a
home business opportunity, I would ask her to chat with you on
the telephone. PM me if you want more info on this.

Also remember that you will not be able to please everyone! If
someone is hesitant about whether our products live up to their
claim, I tell them I will take the candle back and refund their
money if they are unsatisfied. I know *I'll* be happy to burn it!

Hi Jody,
Like Kitt said you will find that you can't please everyone in this world that's for sure, but we will please MOST with our products, I have found that. I do always try and stress also, that it is a scent sample, so they know their not getting a candle. The samples are great, for like the others said, in a warmer or car, and I also tell them to lay them in their drawers with their clothes to make them smell good also. If you think about it you could always mention that with us giving out samples, that is a lot more than some of the other companies provide. I haven't received a lot of samples from any other companies in my past candle shopping days. None, now that I think about it. lol.....I do know of one other company that gives everyone a tea light when you attend their home parties(which I won't mention who) but it doesn't smell at all and I certainly don't want anymore of them. lol.....I'll take one of our scent samples any day! Keep your chin up and move on, don't let one email discourage your joy for our products. Have a great day!

Hi Jody,

Do not worry much about that. Like everyone has said here, you can not please everyone. I have had people complain about receiving a whole votive.smileys/smiley5.gif They thought they should have been sent a jar. smileys/smiley36.gif

Many Blessings,

Natalie

I always tell them they are sample scent bags, I haven't had a bad reaction yet. They always say man I wish I had ordered! Then they do! ;)

I haven't had a bad reaction, butafter myscent sample portion of my website got stuck on a freebie forum (even though it says sample, they were assuming a votive),I've learned (I do this now) that I explain what I'm sending (I also changed the wording on my scent sample request on my site), and even briefly explain:

"and I will send you a scent sample. How I make those is to grate up a votive and put the shavings in small bags so you can experience how strong the scents are. Once you smell the sample, just imagine how it would smell with one of our candles burning!"

Doing something like that should eliminate the expectation from the beginning.

And, this is just one person out of how many?

It's a business. If it's a good friend, and you feel she is truly interested, give her a votive.

My friends get to be my "new scent testers" monthly, and it sure keeps them coming back for more! I give them the new scent in a votive. These are my very close friends and they do support me!

Don't let that get you down! As some other gals said, I always put on my label on the scent sample: "Add me to your potporri warmer, drawer or vacuum."

You would be amazed, alot of people would never think to do that!! smileys/smiley1.gif

And sometimes when people want something for free......maybe they arent the best candidate for you!! smileys/smiley2.gif
