I have a question for you gals, guys. I have been researching your company for about a month now and I wanted to know if there is a certain format that you have to use when setting up a website. I have been to many of your sites and they seem to be about the same. I was thinking more on offering alot of information about soy/vegetable candles and less on pushing the business at first. I have been doing alot of research on building a business online ( which is my main focus) and many that have been successful online say that people are looking for information and you need to build your credibility firstand that pushing a business opportunity to quick will lead to people clicking off your site and going elsewhere. Just wanted some feedback and what any of you think and what is and isn'trequired on your own personal web pages.

We have our company sites and then if you like you can build a site. There are guide lines, like we can't use pics of the products or use the company name, we also can't sell the products via our site, but we can have links to our company sites and we can have forms for others to fill out if they would like more info. I plan on making a site kind of like you mentioned I just have not been able to yet smileys/smiley1.gif

You should be able to do all you want on that website. If you want your pimary focus initially to be about the candles, put that information on your "index" page so it's the first thing they see. Have a page about buying the candles and howcustomers can do that (I would still recommend putting COTM info there as well).
I would also still have a page dedicated to the business opp, and even pages about the three ways to create income. An FAQ page would also be nice to answer the questions that they may want answered but don't have the time to look for them.
On your navigation buttons, put the ones you want to focus on near the top (if you have it on the side) or to the left (if you have it across the top). That emulates the reading style we are used to using - starting at the top going down or working from left to right.
That's about all I can think of with suggestions for the moment! Hope this helps!

I have had success with my personal website and I get almost the same number of hits on the back pages as the first. Feel free to view it as a guide. www.lovethiscandle.com (http://www.lovethiscandle.com) Check out everyone elses here too because there are a lot of really nice personalized sites.
As Cinnamon mentioned we have a couple of rules - like the pictures and no shopping cart at this time. But this may change - The company is working on adding a retail ordering site for us in the future, so it won't be a problem then to simply link to the company website for orders.

It really depends on what you want your focus to be in your online efforts. I heard all of that in the beginning when I wanted to take my business online. This was October 1999. EVERYONE told me not to lead with the opportunity.
But, my problem is that I am first, and foremost, a recruiter and coach, and that is my passion. I did not want to lead with the product as I was looking for others who were looking for a business and that is who I wanted to attract and KEEP at my website.
So, I set out to create my website and my focus around how I wanted my business to run and who I wanted to work with in my business.
So, think about what your business goals are; how you want to approach the business and what aspects you want to work; and finally, who you want to attract.
Design a site around YOUR intentions and you'll get the success you want.
You can very effectively build your credibility on a site that promotes the opportunity.
Also, we have some guidelines and policies around a personal site - no company names, pictures, logos, or product names.
Beyond that, the sky is the limit. Have fun and "sell" what you want to sell!

Ditto to what Jackie says, because there are those that are looking for the opportunity as far as building a team and not so much on the retail side.
That is why our biz is the bomb, because we Can choose what we want to focus on. Nothing is Required except the COTM!
Best of luck to you with your choice!
