Hello everyone! There has not been much action on this board in a while but I just wanted to introduce myself to you all. My name is Danielle and I am FINALLY going to start my Santa Letter writing biz this year. Every yearI am gonna do it and time flies by and it ends up being too late. I am ready this year. At least I know what products I am going with. How did you all do last year. Xmas 07. I hope xmas 08 is good here because I really need some fun in my life and some extra cash.!!!! LOL
Does anyone order paper from paper direct and if so what is that extra thing you can buy for 3.00. They send you the paper margins via email???? Is that all it is. Is it worth it. That will be my hardest thing I guess. I was NEVER good at margins and now I have open office as my word processor. I guess I have to learn how to do a mail merge too! I know how to do it, I just dont know how to set it up.
Well Looking forward to interacting with you all!
Danielle

Hi, Danielle!
Welcome!
I bought a template from paper direct a couple of years ago to get me started. The template is nice, but you could as easily do it on your own. The benefit of using their template is that you can see the graphic outline of your paper you bought on the template. It's a nice to have, but not need to have type of thing. I figured it was only $3, so I gave it a shot.
You can easily figure out your own margins with a little work.
Blessings!
Caryn

Some news casters are just crazy!! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley29.gif I might have to find that channel and watch it!
Honestly, I am still deciding how I will promote the letters this year. I am not even sure I will move forward with them. My daughter is getting a little older and I don't want to ruin the magic. :) Plus, I'll be making manager with TW this month - yay! - so I'm not quite sure of my plans yet.
If I do promote, then I will begin in October. Once you hit the 100 days until Christmas, I think you are safe to advertise. Remember to be disrete (as to not ruin the magic for the kids), but at the same time, get your name out there.
If you are going to order through paper direct, I would do it soon. Make sure you order a sample, too! You have to pay for the sample, but you get a gift certificate to use on your first purchase. I also received a 20% off code with my samples. :) That was nice. Paper direct has some of the best quality paper I've found for the price.
Also, I'd suggest going through the archives here and reading the old posts. There's some really good stuff here. :)
Good luck!

Yeah, i figured when Walmart puts out Xmas then Im safe! LOL and as far as you go, my little guy is 4! I plan on using him as help with my business. His mommy has a direct contact with Santa. sometimes Santa calls mommy to help him with a lot of things. Thats the last thing i want to do is keep it all secret from him. That will just make him more curious and when the stickers start rolling in, Im done for! LOL So just tell her that Santa needs your help this year because there are more kids this year than last and he doesnt want to forget anyone. Then don't forget to send her a letter! LOL Good luck with things.

I say if you want to do it go for it!smileys/smiley36.gifI did
pretty well last year and last year was my first time doing it, I made a
whooping $600. Not sure if I will do it this year but if you are deciding you
should go ahead and start promoting it.
Best places to get sales are craigslist, cafemom, your local area, and schools.
When it comes to school offer to give something back in return to them for
helping you leave fliers with them. I made a good amount at daycares also.
</span>Also since the prices on stamps went up
you might have to upend the prices of your package. My shipping was the big
killer last year; the shipping took most of my profits from me LOL.
Will all and all the experience was fun and to receive emails from customers
who purchase one an told me their stories was priceless. They even mention
about making it a tradition and buy again this every year.
</span>Good luck to what ever you decide.</a>

Thanks! The thing that is going to get in my way is that we have to move by October 31st. And I have not even started packing or have found a place yet. Thats going to take up my promotion time. When you all contact schools and daycares whats your contact method? Every time i have an idea to pitch to the schools they always deny it for some stupid reason or another. So stupid!

For schools ask them if you can leave fliers and tell then "for every purchase that is made from your school you will donate $1.00 back to the school". Something like that and for the daycare ask the same question. Provide a code for them on the fliers. So that means you need to make couple of fliers with different codes for each school.
Also another way is you can send a note in you child's communication folder for the teacher, asking them permission if you can put fliers in the folder and then tell them if it is okay if they can stuff fliers to the other kid's folder. If you do that you have to close up your fliers so the kids want read it and what I did is wrote Top secret on their, just to get them interested. You can attend PTA meeting meet other parents an somehow bring up the Santa letters. Hope that helps some!
