Make sample baggies with your ground up votivesand staple them to a business card and/or brochure. I hand these out to bank tellers, cashiers, and basically anybody that I talk with. You cannot imagine the reaction when they see and smell...thus SELL!!
So here's a few other things I do:
1. I have baskets at local convenience stores and retail stores. FREE SAMPLE in big letters. I have a business card stapled to a sample baggie. HUGE sales from this! Think of everybody that goes to a convenience store...all walks of life and all economic levels.
I usually give the Manager a free votive and holder for allowing me to do this. Who doesn't love FREE? I usually fill back up every week or so.
2. I give samples/bus. cards to all cashiers and clerks I talk with. VERY easy to do. "Hey I have a candle business and I would like to give you a free sample." "You can poke holes in this baggie and put in your car as an air freshener." EASY PEASY!!
3. I send samples of our newest monthly scent in with my bank deposits..they love this!
4. I hold drawings and raffles at my daughter's school. I set up a small display, 25 cents a ticket for about 2 weeks, then have a winner. The "ticket" is a name and address paper....LEADS that I send samples and business information to. Oh the winner gets a portion of their daycare paid!
5. I hold "Lunch by Candlelight" office parties. This is REALLY easy.
I stop by an office with a Lunch by Candlelight flyer, free votive and holder, samples, business cards, and brochures. I simply walk in and say, "Just stopped by to give you this and introduce you to Mia Bella candles. I give "lunch parties" where I can set up a display in your lunchroom. I can stay and help or I can leave it for a few days." "Whatever is most convenient for you." Ialways get a GREAT reaction! Whoever sets up the "party" gets the hostess gifts. (gifts are set by you)
Most offices want me to leave the display and products for a few days. This works better for me...I can do 3 and 4 and more of these a week! Plus, the more time it stays there, the more sales.
Have a drawing too on your office display. Nothing big but people LOVE to win something!
Just a few things I do! Anybody care to share theirs?

Tracey,
Great stuff!
With the "lunch by candlelight", do you usually stay and do the party? Or do more often just leave the stuff?
Thanks.

I have found that these offices really like me to leave the products for a few days. I actually encourage this as it usually leads to higher sales..thus more hostess gifts.
I leave the product (always make an inventory list too and have the person having this sign it too), an order form, brochures, business cards, samples etc.
It's all very simple.I let the candles do all the talking for me.
Nothing fancy, nothing major. Very simple, come and go, buy as you wish!

I usually leave mostly jar candles, they have the better scents. I leave about 12, a case. Better odds on cash sales and not have to order.
I have all scents in Bella bars packages open so they can be smelled and I leave about 3 scents or so of each.
Then I have 2-3 Bella Buns, 2-3 body washes.
Really just a good mix. It also depends on how big their area is. I have done only 6 jar candles before and all 6 sold the first day. I had to bring more back the next day, I am thinking it was 5-6 more.
Also depends on what stock I have too.
I emphasize, keep it simple. This is an office, so the more simple the better.

Thanks Tracey.
One last question. Do you give them a sample jar to light?

Now, you know, I have never been asked that, what a GREAT idea! Now I feel DUH!! smileys/smiley9.gif
I will have to offer that I guess, although I hate to lose a jar for that. Now I did at a few places set a jar that had already been burned, so they could see the difference with our competitors.
Nobody has ever asked to light a jar. ROFL....I am feeling kind of "blonde" right now. smileys/smiley9.gif

Thanks. I've done the sample jar with some people I know and it worked out well. So I was thinking of doing it with realtors, too. Ya know, tell them to try it in their office for an hour or two and let their noses decide. Then come back pick up the candle, take orders and next. Coz ya know once ya burn a mia bella, you'll never go back!

So on the office parties, is it better to take like 12 jars in or to take the sample bag in to leave?

I don't have a sample bag, I just use what stock I have. I would think the jars would be better, or both if you have both.
