View Full Version : From Tarot to life coaching?

Hi,

I've been a Tarot card reader for 11 years. I'm experiencing increasing frustration at the lack of interest so many clients have in making change and participating in their own lives. I've spent 11 years with the cards, using them, learning about them, learning from them. During that time I've obtained additional training in NLP (Master practioner certificate)and have studied various techniques for peaceful communication and conflict resolution. This summer, I taught my first workshops at a large consciousness festival in western NY, and will be teaching 3 more at another festival in Connecticut. My approach to the Tarot and to consulting has grown out of years of study and practice, but on some level, I'm not sure I identify with that market anymore.

Recently, I've begun promoting myself as the Tarot Life Coach because I want to be completely up front regarding my approach to the cards as a tool for change. I signed up on live person, but listed as a reader because I'm used to that market, and thought I might get more hits. But honestly, I'm really frustrated at the number of clients I get who just want to be told what to do, what other people feel or are thinking, and other information that, while acknowledging the oracular application of the cards, I really feel is unhelpful, and disrespectful to both the client and the cards. My profile clearly states the approach I take, and it's disheartening to find so many people have no interest in participating in their own lives. I can't help them. There is nothing I can do with someone who is not interested in being present in their own life.

In the area where I live (between Woodstock and New Paltz) there is a lot of interest in both the Tarot and in life coaching. The workshops went well, and there is a lot of interest in my specific approach. I think I'm in a good market to offer the combined service that I do. I wanted to consult online while I build local clients, but I admit I'm feeling frustrated, and probably a bit judgemental, at the clients I'm getting listing as a reader. I'm wondering if I should list separately as a life coach, and just give up on calling myself a reader? Both are important to me. Does it get better? Should I have two listings and see what gets more hits? Or should I let go of identifying as a reader in the hopes that I'll attract clients that are more interested in their own lives, and not in projecting desiresinto their futures or their boyfriends' feelings. (I've just noticed I'm a very grumpy life coach today. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley24.gif)

Is the online "psychic" client base really that different than face-to-face consultations? I've never had this problem with my face-to-face Tarot clients before.

Hi, I am a tarot reader and a creativity coach. I have been thinking of offering both services myself. I totally understand about kind of questions you get asked as a reader. I signed up with kasamba(now live person) as a reader. I tried to cancel that listing and be listed in the coaching section and they just kept denying me. I don't really bother with the site any longer. I think that tarot can be a very useful tool for change. I think your best hope of attracting the kind of clients you want is to build a niche for yourself.

Wow. I've never heard of that before (tarot readers as life coaches). But I get what you mean, about people not participating in their lives anymore. It's slightly related to one of the posts here in WAHM, how people don't want to get out of their comfort zones. I think it's quite sad because the unfamiliar can be uncomfortable but the pay-out in the end is so great.

I have a question though: if you give up being a reader, how will you be a life coach? Or are you just eliminating the reader from your job description? Your situation is tough. I won't offer any advice as I'm not nor have I ever been in a situation like yours. I'm just offering words of encouragement and feelings of hope and positive energy that you will be able to make the right decisions.

Good luck!

Leanna

LeannaL: I would just not offer readings. Life coaching is its own thing.

Since my last post here, I did get my listing in the coaching area of liveperson and I'm still getting the same type of clients. I don't even bother checking in there anymore.

I think that tarot readings can work with coaching, you just need to use very targeted marketing. It is all about finding the right client.

dreadymama: How are you doing now? Did you find some sort of compromise regarding your job and specialty?

Delisa: Thanks for the clarification!

Leanna

LeannaL- I was confused by the website when I click on your siggy link. Did I miss something or do you have another site about affiliate marketing? I'm trying to do some of that too.

dreadymama- How has tarot and coaching been working out for you? I have been thinking of adding a tarot page to my website. I'm not really sure about it though. It could draw clients or turn them off.
