I have narrowed my search down to 5 companies that I think would love to work with. I am asking the Lord to order my steps in this decision and asking you ladies to please share any experience you have had with these companies.
If you are a consultant or just happen to know please share the comission structure, shipping practices, start up costs, incentive programs, hostess programs and anything else you think would be helpful.
I am considering Usborne Books, Big Yellow Box, Entertain with Ease, Mia Bella, and Northern Lights at Home.
If you don't mind posting the information here that way it is all in one place for comparison.

We make up to 50% commission on our personal sales. Thats selling at suggested retail price.
We also make a commission our downline...so each person I sponsor I get 10% of the commissionable volume of their sales on level 1. On levels 2 thru 5 we get 5% of comm. volume and on level 6 it jumps back to 10%. I can explain that more in detail if you would like.
The company ships your orders to you, most of the times the turn around is a week or less. Except during xmas which is expected.
Start up Cost is 39.95 a month and you receive 1 16 oz Jar candle, a dozen votives, a bella bar and your company maintained website. :) This is also your monthly quota you meet thats it. So each month you get a new candle of the month scent and your website for $39.95. There are additional packages which are optional.
Hostess programs we do our own. Each person gives what they would like. I do a free gift for booking, 1 free candle for every 100 in sales and 15% of the sales in discount or merchandise.
This is truly an awesome company. We are going into our 4th year and reached the 1 million dollar sales just this past year. I would love to send you a votive and biz opp cd for you to learn more.
We have company training calls weekly, message boards, yahoo groups, a great customer service staff and corporate support. We are gearing up for our Spring Fling in March when they do training and reveal new products.

If you are a consultant or just happen to know please share the comission structure ~ consultants earn 25% of personal sales and between 2-11% on that of their team's sales (should you choose to have a team), shipping practices ~ shipping is $3.50 minimum and 10% on an order over $35..the kits get shipped either to you, the customer or the hostess, start up costs ~ we have 2 start up kits: 1 for $199 (a $400 value) and 1 for $99 (a $200 value), incentive programs ~ there are incentives run corporate-wide and team-wide..but they vary. There is an initial incentive program called "Go for the Gold" which you can earn based on your sales the first 3 months of being a consultant. ETA: There's a monthly sales volume bonus you can earn of 5 and 10% more of sales based on your sales level, hostess programs ~ a party consists of $150 in sales & 5 orders...with that the hostess receives FREE shipping, $15 off of her order, 1 half priced item and a hospitality gift valued at $25. Aw man Dana! I just knew Discovery Toys was gonna be in your list!!! Oh well, you said you are letting the Lord guide you in your decision and that's all that needs to be said! Amen to that!!! So, congrats on narrowing it down so well! I've not been involved with any of these companies or a customer but you have got some great ladies that are going to give you so much help and guidance! I don't expect to see anything but great things from you because I know God is going to bless you abundantly and use you to bless others through your new business. Hi Dana! I'd be happy to share more information about Entertain with Ease! It is a great company offering the Best of at home entertaining via great food and tableware. We are about 2 years old and I love it!

Good choices and whichever you decide to go with please let us know how it's going for you. It's always fun for me to hear people who are just starting. There is an excitement and energy when you've made your decision and you get into action. :o) It keeps reminding me of when I first started.

I love DT my sister in law is a rep for them. She started last year and then went through a horrible custody case with her ex. They had a restraining order on him for years and out of nowhere he came down here and kidnapped her daughter and went back to his home state where they didn't know what was going on. She had to go up their and fight for custody. You would have thought it would be open and shut right, but it wasn't. Well anyway we know that even though that was a horrible experience the Lord will useit for her good. She is recommiting to her business and is holding an open house in February and I am hosting 2 parties for her in Feb. So anything I do DT related with be to help my awesome SIL. That is another reason I thought the time is right for me to start now, because she and I would basically be starting this adventure together. We could market for each other and refer people to each other.

I have had the pleasure of dealing with all of the businesses you mentioned. All as customers. I love Usborne's books and think they would be a great business to get involved with. They would be a great addition to sell alongside your sil. Although BYB has beautiful items. I was a big customer of theirs during this past holiday season. I love their creative items and would be good for an older group of kids - perfect for my 13 and 11 year olds. You can't go wrong with candles also - they are a HOT business right now. Both Mia Bella and Northern Lights at Home have great candles. NLAH has accessories that Mia Bella doesn't have. They might appeal to someone who likes more than jar candles and votives. The business structures are alot different with each of the companies so look closely and figure out what would work best for you.
Now - Entertain with Ease - This company is awesome. They have some of the best food products I've tried. My refrigerator is filled with many of their items and I have not tried one yet that I didn't like.
You have a hard decision ahead of you. Follow your heart and pick the business that will put that passion inside you. You'll need to LOVE what you do and what you are selling.
