I have been invited to be a member of a BNI group. I attended a meeting as a guest and really liked the format of the networking luncheon. But when I recieved my application I realized the yearly fee was nearly $500! I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with groups like this.

Hi Ncole,

I went to one meeting and the cost of joining was the same. Their meetings are very organized, which was great. For us, it was the fee to join but then an additional ~$500 a year because they rented out a room at a local hotel and we had to pay for it and the danish. I couldn't swing the monies. BUT, I found local networking meetings like the chamber etc. that I plan to go and meet with monthly. Ours is only $100/year which is more affordable.

I've been to chamber meetings but I just felt like many people already knew each other and just hung out. Tt was very clickish. The BNI meetings are just for referrals, there is nohanging out. I like how they all felt that time was important and they hold other social events to "hang out", but the lunch meetings were just for business,so I felt like the money would be better spent even if it was way more.

You just reminded me to send in my app!

Nichole,
I found a local womens networking group that is on $30 to join. We then pay a fee (about $17) per meeting we attend to pay for lunch. They are there to network and also do a bit of socializing.
