Hello everyone! I am presently studying to go and take the test to get licensed in "health insurance". I am not interested in getting licensed to sell life insurance though and am interested in helping elderly people to enroll and get signed up for supplemental insurance and Medicare. Since I am new to this field I am trying to do some research and find out if there are companies that I can work for from home to where they route calls to you of people who are interested in learning more about and getting signed up for specifically medicare supplement insurance. I have heard of people selling insurance from home but I only keep hearning about people that sell the life insurance but not a lot about those that "just" sell the health insurance. Is this possible to do and if so is there a such thing as companies that will hire someone that is licensed in health insurance to work for them answering calls about health insurance (Medicare)? Are they commissioned based jobs or hourly or is there a mixture of both? I appreciate any advice and help that you can provide. TIA

This is not exactly the busiest board on wahm and you did not even post 24 hours ago.
I'm sure someone will help you if they have experience with this.
Patience...........
Why would you not just take the test for life and health and be Indepdent from home? I was going to do that and have a friend (mentor) who is very successful doing that.

I have patience.....
I'm just very excited about getting my license for the health insurance and am hoping someone can help. I have noticed posts before that have gotten no response before in other folders so I guess that is just me being persistant is all. I have not completely ruled out life insurance, but I am just not very interested in selling that type of insurance. I have a really good friend that got licensed to sell life insurance but not the health insurance and she too has been very successful doing it. I asked her why she didn't take the test for the health insurance and she told me that she just was not interested in selling it. I figure that I can be successful in dealing with the health insurance since it posed a great interest to me. I feel that if I do both and am not that interested in dealing with the life insurance, that I will not be happy doing it.

Considering a person can take both the life and health together it's a good idea to take them together as one test. With a life license a person can also sell Fixed and indexed Annuities. Those can be some great commisions. Then with the health there's the posibility of also selling Long Term Care. It's all about having options.
Now for the medicare options. There are some marketing organizations that market medsups. Take a look at www.thekingdomgroup.net (http://www.thekingdomgroup.net) I don't know if you can sit home a do it over the phone but i'm sure someone somewhere is doing it.
When looking at some of the marketing organization just know it's easy to get in, but it may not be easy to get out of the contracts. You can find some great information and ask questions at:
http://www.insurance-forums.net/forum/
Something to think about is many people are going to be looking for safety of principle and a life time of income stream. The baby boomers are looking at Annuities. If there's a chance to upgrade a license like combining a Life and Health why not do it. It's much better to be able to market a product than to have to go back and study and retest again. Yet that's hust my opinion. Also with a life license if you find a person who may not want or need or can afforda life policy anymore there's the Life settlement option. I don't think a person who is just Health can offer that option. Then for the Life person what if their client needs a disability policy.
There's a magazine called senior Market advisor you cango tothe the site and look around for ads. www.seniormarketadvisor.com (http://www.seniormarketadvisor.com) I hope some of this helps.

Something else I have come across doing research is sometimes a company may also offer a final expense plan for a senior coupled with a funeral trust. That way a Senior can purchase a Final expense plan, usually Whole Life Insurancewith a single premium. That way money that may have been counted for medicaid spend down purposes can be used for Funeral expenses and the excess that's left can be distributed to whomever.
Now with that being said something like that type of planning
has to be taken under serious consideration as an agent. You would want to make sure everything is medicaidcompliant. This is just another reason to at least have access to Life products.
If your still looking have a look at this company. You can give them a call. As always things may sound great going in, but make sure you understand what it takes to get out. Some companies can lock people in to their marketing organization per contract.
http://www.montgomery-insurance.net/career_information.htm (http://www.montgomery-insurance.net/career_information.htm)
Also most companies do require E/O coverage. Ask if theysupport a discount plan for contractedagents. Good luck..

Ok listen to this folks. I called Us Health Group. The Company above. Considering i'm in Calif. I asked them about Calif. They don't sell products in Calif. Well the Office manager informed me that I could get a nonresident license for another state and still offer their products over the phone and internet. I had completely forgot about a nonresident license. The personI talked to Marc was very upfront with me about how the business works.
If anyone has any interest in offering health products over the phone from home give him a call. He will tell you to make the good money you will have to put in the time. M-F,, 9-5pm. He also said he is there to help those who want it. He won't beg anyone to do anything. You as an individual must want it. As always get all the information you require and make a decision.
I didn't even think about a nonresident license. He said they can offer their products in 28 states. See that's one advantage of being independent rather than captive. Freedom to look at other opportunities.
Just for those who don't know what a nonresident insurancelicense is, it's just submitting an application to another state to get licensed to market certain products in that state that you are not a resident in. There's no testing involved, just mostly paying a fee.
As I said do your own homework. what may sound good to me, may not be for you.. I still say it's best to take the Life/Health together when possible. Yet all things are not the same for all people.

Here's a secret...
I have a friend that sells a medicare supplement plan that pays $400 per application. She gets pre-set appointments from a marketing group for $25 per appointment.
She closes nearly every appointment because the plans are zero premium.
So do the math...let's say she spends $200 to get eight local pre-set appointments for the week. She gets onlysix applications out of the eight appointments.
Six times $400 is $2400. Would you invest $200 and a day or two per week to earn $2,000 (after expenses)???

WOW! Thanks Cornelius for that gang of info. It is so greatly appreciated. I tried going over to the Insurance forum and let me tell you...
it is definitely a whole other world on that forum. There is soooo much information to read and sooo much to learn and take in...it had got kinda overwhelming at first. I really wish I could have a mentor to teach me like I have read other people get or have.
Thanks for that awesome info you posted as well healyourself! That is great to know. I have been reading and researching and reading and researching and it just seems like it is going to be very hard breaking into something like the insurance industry. I am not giving up though...I have faith that if I keep focused it will work out great for me.

Here's a great site for getting started. I'm going to subscribe just for the information and experience value. http://ihiaa.com/
Contact them and attend their webinar and they will explain everything. For now basically just get licensed and then after you have got that then you can figure out which way to go. As always no matter which company you sign with read your contract. Know what it takes to get in and to get out.
I have just come across aproduct you can offer now without licensing that is Medicare approved and requires a Physicians ok so you don't have to worry about the scam factor.. I will pm you some information. It's for people who have circulation problems, Diabetes and arthritis. It's a kit, not a lotion, potion or pill. Medicare approved.
Oh yesI forgot one important thing. There's no signup fee to market the products. So it's a yes or no thank youdecision.

Oh wow, that is awesome! How in the world do you find these types of companies and opps? There's so much info on the insurance forum it is very confusing especially since I am new. Going over to that insurance forum is like taking a trip to China and not knowing how to speak Chinese lol. I am reading alot but there are lots of insurance lingo that they use that I have no idea what they are talking about. I have a notebook that I am taking notes in so that I can ask questions of that throw me for a loop. I got your pm Cornelius and pm'ed you back. Thanks :-)

I know this is an old post, but hopefully someone will get some use out of this. I worked for an insurance company that sold mostly medicare supplement insurance, also some other insurance products for people over the age of 50. Mostly med supp though. I was a full-time telecommuter, working strictly out of my home office. The calls are all inbound, no cold-calling, and no face to face meetings. It is a full-time job no exceptions, and you have to be available to take calls at all times during your 8 hours. The company will train you and pay to get licensed in health & annuities. I'm still licensed but I no longer work for the company because I did not like being tied to a computer all day, except for my 2 breaks and a lunch. Still reminded me of an office job. www.thehartford.com (http://www.thehartford.com)
The let you telecommute from anywhere in the country, but you do have to train in office. Not sure how that would work out for non-local people.
