LOL people always talk about how they have "this" many eggs (jobs) in their baskets.....whether it be because of how part time each egg is or that we are IC's and feel we need multiple backups...my question / comment is...

Am I foolish to only have 1 egg in my basket? Its good money, the hours I want, the type of job Ive always been looking for with my background (but I am an IC)- - but Ive found that the last few weeks Ive been thinking that perhaps I should have that extra egg on the side, even though I really dont want more work and am content with what I have...

Advice? better to work a little extra to have backup? honestly, Im a bit tired of job searching too- I just want to enjoy the job I have! :)

Well, any stories, advice, how many eggs you have and how it works out and why you have all of them would help me out- - always nice to hear whats good for other people as I sit here deciding whether to begin another search or not!! THANKS!

If you're content why question it?

For me - I have several long term IC gigs and a few jobs- 12 years ago the company I worked for closed its doors and (for me, as the sole support of our family) I decided never to depend on one egg ever again

My opinion is it is always better to have more than one egg in the basket. You never know what could happen to that one job... so it is best to have at least a backup just incase something did happen.

You do not want to get to many eggs in the basket, but you do want to keep enough to where you are happy with the income, and you have the time you need for family.

I have 3 eggs in my basket. Two of them are business web sites that I own and then I work a CSR job full time.

But most of all.. it really depends on you... and how much you can handle or even want to work. So good luck in which ever choice you make....

My honest opinion, it depends on what you want.

If you were working outside the home how many jobs would you have? Those jobs, even though they seem more secure really aren't.

I was working at a B&M for 23 years, same place. Left there for another facility. 8 months and my position was eliminated. Found another job right away, was there 1 year and it was bought out by another company. I was hired by the new company but got married and relocated to another state. Worked 1 place 2 months and couldn't handle the politics. Left there for another job where I was making almost $20/hour less than I was in my old hometown. It was a small privatly owned company and I got fired after 3 months. The owner was always hiring and firing people every other month. It took me about 7 months to get my next job. Got fired after 1.5 years. The last 3 people who had my position either quit on bad terms or were fired. The office I was in had 5 people, 4 of us were hired within 2 months of each other and 2 of them left just before I did and the other one was looking for another job. It took me 4 months to find my WAHM job and I love it. I'm only working the 1 job part time. I'm contributing to the household income and I've been there over a year.

Truthfully, I would have at least 2-3 irons in the fire. That does not mean however that you devote the same amount of time to each. You can have one main WAHJ and two you might work on the weekends or in the evenings/daytime hours.

Since most WAH jobs are IC and not employee situations, you are not in the most secure position (unless you own your own business).

It also depends on your home demands.

Frankly, I can't juggle too many eggs. I've really only got the one IC position. Anything else is just extra money.

If I was younger, maybe I could handle more. smileys/smiley2.gif

If you are content with your egg why mess with things? I am not good at more than one egg and am awestruck with some of these ladies that have 3 or 4, no way could I do that :)

I can share my experience with you too!

First off, I have seven children....youngest JUST turned 19 months old and the oldest is away at school..he's 16. When my youngest was newborn(literally, just born), I had three eggs...all phone work too! I breastfed while working and he slept in my arms otherwise while working. It was very difficult for me at that time but I was separated and going through a divorce, so I had to do what I had to do....the rest of the kids were in school, just barely though for the daughter right before the baby...she was part-time pre-k.

I ended up with just two eggs, because the third one was seasonal. Finally, I had to resign from the employer and stay with the contract on the other as an IC. I have been with this company for over a year, but had a few months worth of break with them, as it is needed when in demand :( (got remarried)My husband is self employed and is having a rough time of it right now, so my full time back with this company right now is great! I only keep one egg for now. I'm pretty busy at home for any more at this time unless it's non phone work! Then, I'll add another egg.

My opinion is you gotta do whatcha gotta do, for you.Only you know what will work for your unique situation, schedule, lifestyle, etc. It can be stressful for some to try too many thingys at once. Who needs the extra stress? Lol!

Having only one egg in that basket, sounds fine to me if that is what YOU want. The highlight ofyour postis, "I'm a bit tired of job serching too- I just want to enjoy the job I have! :)"

Go ahead and get you some rest girl, and enjoy that job! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
