Hi there! I posted this in the business folder but then I thought this is probably where I need to post it since you all are the experts and have been so helpful!

I was wondering if any of you had time, if you wouldn't mind checking out my forum and letting me know if there are any suggestions you have. This is the first time I'm making it "public" but before I put a link on my website to it, I just want to make sure there aren't any things that need to be tweaked. Creating one of these things is harder than I thought it would be! I just hope I don't end up needing to make many more modifictions in the actual code!!!! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

Thanks! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

Looks like a typical forum. smileys/smiley1.gif

I might suggest to change the template on it so it's not using the default one. That way it seems more custom and personal for the people who post there.

Thanks for the advice! I'd love to change the template up, but am scared to death to do it! smileys/smiley5.gifThe only way I'll do it is if I hire someone to do it for me, and I'm not ready to do that yet. If it's getting to be a big one (I've got a special usergroup set up for my local area b/c there's nothing like that here) then I may consider it, then I'll let the WAHMs in web design know I need some help and people can PM me their prices. But until if and when that happens, I'm TERRIFIED to mess with the template! smileys/smiley1.gifThank you for your help!!

I would suggest changing the template, also. You can get free templates that are pretty straight forward, it at least wouldn't be the default. I don't know any sites off hand but just do a search on Google, I'm sure you could find some (I found a site with a ton of awesome templates before).

Good luck!

Go to http://www.phpbb.comthat is the home site for the forum, they have loads of free templates there and instructions on how to install them. You do not have to touch your default template in order to change to a new one.

Okay, you all convinced me! I changed the template. I was absolutely scared to death to mess with it but after reading the post that it really wasn't that hard, I decided to look at all of phpbb's articles and then followed the instructions. After a few visits to their support forum, I carried it off. It's not a dramatic change, but it's different colors and a few different graphics from the subsilver design. What do you all think? I went ahead and uploaded another one I was considering and it looks really different (noteBored design if anyone is interested in what it is), but I'll have to create a whole new logo and stuff if I go with it because there's no "Welcome to the boards ..." etc. spot that automatically comes up with it. I'm really pleased with this one (and excited I pulled it off by myself -- I can't believe it!!!!), but please let me know if you think it's still too plain. smileys/smiley17.gif

Thank you all so much for the compliments, and for the incentive to take a big leap and make myself learn how to do it! smileys/smiley17.gif

Hi writingmom,

Can you PM me with more info about your forum? Like, how much it cost and where you are hosting it. It looks great! I desperately need my own forum.

Thanks,
Debbi

Thanks writingmom,

I cleared my inbox. I had no clue it was full! By the way, with the name writingmom, I suppose you write. Do you do web content? You can PM about that too.

Thanks,
Debbi

For the record, the writing is not code of any sort! I'm a freelance journalist. Code is almost foreign to me! smileys/smiley17.gifI'll to type another pm now!
