I've been a full time web designer since 1996. I'm expert at Photoshop, Dreamweaver, PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and most recently I'm diving into CSS.

I don't really design for others very much anymore, I just design for myself. I own over 50 sites currently and have a very successful online biz.

I'm always looking for other designers to network with and share ideas so I'm pretty excited about joining this forum!!!!

Hi Jennifer!

Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing - 10 1/2 years. Web Design/Development 4 years.

50 sites of your own! You must be one busy lady! I have 3 of my own (stationery shop, graphic design, and magazine site), and I stayvery busybetween them! Any secrets to staying sane?! LOL!

Thanks Teresa, it's my site logo too. :)

Nolacoop, while I do run 50 sites some of them are older some are newer. The older ones just make money they don't require any frequent work. It's the newer stuff I work on and keep releasing new sites. And then when the older ones need a revamping I go back to them.....it's been 7 years and I've got sites coming out my years! smileys/smiley36.gif

I finally got to the point where I said "why not release a site that has info about what I know best? (Being a WAHM)" I don't know why the idea didn't hit me sooner. smileys/smiley11.gif

Oh well here I am, and my new site is online and I'm happy to be here! smileys/smiley32.gif

Wow Jennifer, that's a lot of sites! Care sharing some of them? I've been making websites for over a decade, and generally don't design for others anymore, either. I'm not quite up to 50 websites yet, though.

I make websites using XHTML/CSS. I'm pretty graphically challenged, but I try. Also PHP and database driven websites.

Here are a couple of my blogs I made money with, they have poor design because they're search engine optimized:

http://www.seenontvblog.com/ (http://www.seenontvblog.com/)

http://www.nameyourthings.com(brand new no PR yet)

And I have this shopping directory that I'm trying to build up slowly:

http://www.heartstoppingdeals.com

And I have this other seen on tv site that I opened for a SEO experiment:

I could go on and on. smileys/smiley36.gif

Hi, I'm a newbie! I've been doing web design for I guess about 5 years now. I mainly just do it pro bono for non-profit organizations.

Here's the main one I do, for my own organization:

I have been doing web design/e-commerce for about 15 years now. My husband and I run our own company and we hold several degrees in these fields.

Between us we have worked in practically every position from lowly webmasters to cordinator of web services.

We now own and operate our own IT services company which has been doing well for about 5 years now.

And we currently have so much work that we have had to hire employees. smileys/smiley1.gifSo we utilize the career services department at several of the colleges that we attended.

Good luck to you in all your endeavors.

I'm impressed too. 50 sites just rocks!

For myself I've been designing for about 5 years. I just love it.

I do take on client work - but don't actively seek it because my schedule is always so full.

I have been doing Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing for 14 years. I started doing web design when the internet was first introduced to the public, approximately 1992 or 93. I am now known for my capabilities of helping companies achieve a top ten position within Google. I have worked with Wells Fargo, IBM Canada, etc. I am so busy that I have not had time to work on my own portfolio/website. I love what I do for a living, isn't it fun.Edited by: goneriding

I'm just a *baby* in the timeline compared to some of you! I started my
WAHM biz 3 years ago and it wasnt until about a year later I got into
Web design. I've only been professional designing for other WAHMs for
about a year. I own 3 websites, one of which is my designing website
(www.babyspacedesigns.com). I got into it because I wanted to help
WAHMs, not really to make money but help others with the same SAH goals
I had. KWIM?

I'm with you Kristine, I'm just a *baby as well. I've been designing for about a year now and am currently in school for graphic & web design.

For those of you with more experience. How did you start getting clients when you started out. I do the eBay thing and I do alright with it but I'm talking about getting out there and designing web sites. How did you start to network and get yourself out there??

When we started, we made business cards and flyers. We walked the business area of our town for about a month and met just about every business owner/manager in the area.

We joined the local chamber of commerce as well and pitched to the associated companies for a new design or a revamp. We would do the sites then create a demo in flash of the navigation of the site and then present that to the company.

And word of mouth from friends and familyhelped us more than anything. We have international clients now as well as clients all over the US due to online friends who would drop our URL to anyone who mentioned needing a website.

Hope this helps and good luck!
