Good point! I especially try to stay away from "buffet style" restaurants. Few people, if any, wash their hands and everyone uses the same utensils...and most don't (I've watched) disinfect before putting their hands on their food and into their mouths...YUCK!

We cook, mostly. Since I lost my job that paid well, We've had to cut back a lot! I've since found a job but the pay is quite a bit less.

Besides, my sweetie is on a low-sodium diet. All that salt in fast food is not good.

Chicken Kabobs

2 chicken breasts

1 large green pepper

1 large orange pepper

mushrooms

cherry tomatoes

parsley and pepper grilling paste

5 tbsp/75 mL grapeseed oil

1 tbsp/15 mL sea salt

1 tbsp/15 mL pepper

1 tbsp/15 mL parsley

Combine all ingredients into bowl and let set while cutting up chicken and vegetables for kabobs.

Cut chicken into 1 to 2 inch cubes and place in bowl with paste. Cut vegetables into 1 to 2 inch cubes.

Alternate placing chicken and vegetables on skewers. Place on grill and brush paste on kabobs as they grill.

Grill for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

If you mean lately, The answer is that we eat at home - it's a lot cheaper.

We both cook well so it works out just fine. Going out will return when our various internet businesses get solidly underway. Working from home as we do these days makes it convenient to eat at home, but we also find ourselves needing to get out and do exciting things like going to Home Depot today to get a water filter element.

We generally eat at home and seldom go out to eat. We have nine children ranging from 18months to 22yrs all at home and everyone pitches in - to eat that is. Thenwhen it comes time todo the dishes there never seems to be anyone around - Thanks for the invention of the dishwasher.

I agree about the dinner dishwashing. My daughter and I split the week with her getting 4 days. It makes it much easier on me to get the rest of the house work done, and the cooking...when I choose to cook.

I cook the majority of the time. It is expensive to eat out. Sometimes when we can spend $40 on take out and I think about all the groceries we could have bought.

My friend bought me a cook book for Christmas called 'The Big Cook'. It is a really neat concept, it is all about pre-making your meals so all you have do is put it in the slow cooker in the morning or in the oven in the evening.

The book has saved me time and money. Because I would shop ingredients and use them all and supper time wasn't stressful because I had a meal prepared.

I would say 50-50. I am really trying to get back to cooking more meals for my family because I know that it is healthier. Everday I drive through the city and see how packed out restuarants are and it really bothers me. I worked at fast food places for a while and I know that many of them are not as sanitary as people may think. Of course they have to watch the videos and get the training but when it comes down to a fast food rush most of that goes out the window.

Just look up the calories of the food, even the "healthy" foods at restaurants and you won't want to do it anymore.

I went for my yearly physical, and one of my doctor's main questions was: Do you eat out or do you make your own food. Unfortunately, I've been eating out quite a bit. But when I do eat out, I avoid fries, cheese, and try to mainly eat at Subway.

Well, me? Me and my hubby cooks sometimes together and sometimes we cook individually depending on who gets home first. Sometimes he would cook a few mins after he gets off work. We cook Mondays - Thursdays. Sundays we eat over our mom's house, Fridays and Saturdays we usually go out to eat.</font>

I love to cook, but I have to have plenty of time to prepare and cook from scratch. With our busy schedules, we eat out 1/2 the time. However, we try to eat healthy and find ways to eat economically.

For us we either eat out or order in most of the time, pure laziness of course, its just at the end of the day you do be tired and the thought of cooking and washing up is not good. We should get out of that habit though, a good home cooked meal can not be beaten!

Eat out 80% of the time.

Between my husband and I, we have three full time jobs, plus 2 very young children and my teenage sister living with us. One of our jobs requires us to be gone several evenings a week so we result to eating out on a consistent basis.

It gets old, but we try to hit healthy delis as often as possible. All breakfasts are at home, and we try not to buy lunch out too often, though my mommy group dates at ChickFilA are a welcome break. smileys/smiley17.gif i do cook about 2-3 nights a week.

Obviously, I prefer to cook at home. =) If we eat out it's usually our favorite pizza place. Other than that, I love to cook and like to have control over what's going into our meals. My 4 yr old ds also loves helping in the kitchen, so I'm trying to foster that as much as possible. It's great bonding time for us and he's learning a life-long skill...and his future wife should be happy if his interest in cooking stays! lol

It is nice to break the routine , to go out , to see people, to meet a friend.

I tracked the amount of money spent on take out, delivery and dinning out over a few months and noticed that my wife and I were spending over $500/month so we decided to start doing a lot more eating at home.

Lucky for me she likes to cook. I was a chef for 11 years and could not stand to be in the kitchen when i came home from work.

Now that we have kids if she doesnt want to cook then we order out or I make something, but it can get so expensive

I buy alot of stuff from Homemade Gourmet- which is a company that you purchase the mixes and prepare it with your meats and normal staples you have in the pantry.. The food is delicious and is SUPER fast to make and not very expensive! Love it! I started selling it recently and everyone that has bought it says that it is gret to not have to go to the drive thru when they are in a hurry!! :)

It is impressive how much you can save when you start eating at home. DH and I made a firm commitment to have a cash on hand policy about eating out. So we have a kitty. If there is something in the kitty we can eat out if not, eat in. We have saved an incredible amount of money by eating in. It adds up quickly.

Mostly, I cook. It's just getting way to expensive to eat out, but we do go out more often as more and more children grow up and leave...I guess it's true what they say...more mon, more fun!

I usually make meals that I can start in the slow cooker in the morning. Then I can have a great meal for the family without having to spend much time in the kitchen. Plus only one pot to cook it and that's definitely an advantage! I also love it when I go out and come home to that smell of something yummy in the kitchen cooking. OMG, now I have to go to the kitchen and get something to eat!

Truth be known though, my favorite thing to make is a reservation!

I love my slow cooker! I use it whenever I can. Easy clean-up (only 1 pot to cook in), great food (ummm, yummm!) and I love that smell when I've been gone all day and walk in the house to smell something delicious that's been cooking all day! The majority of my cookbooks (which I love to just sit and peruse) are slow cooker meal books. It's super to put a good meal on the table with minimal time in the kitchen!

Truth be told though, my favorite thing to make is a reservation!

I mainly cook at home...we may eat out once a week or get pizza delivered. I don't really use too many recipes, I just use all low fat or fat free ingredients when I cook. My husband is all about low fat and healthy. I just try to rotate through different meats and veggies and fruits to keep it different. With a little one now though, I try to limit preparation time to 15 minutes or less.

We rarely eat out anymore because it gets too expensive with so many mouths to feed. I usually spend $150 per week on groceries. If we ate out at a restaurant, it would cost us about $30 just for one meal. And that's at an inexpensive place.

Once in a while we do go out and we prefer buffet places. At least, you can eat til you feel like you've gotten your money's worth!

We typically eat out a couple times a week but it's usually because of hectic schedules. When things are not as chaotic (like during summer break), we cook most of the time.

We are always mixing things up, trying new foods, making seasonal meals out of season, etc. For example, one year for Christmas we fired up the grill & made hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. We have cooked full Thanksgiving dinners in June and invited the neighbors to join us. If we don't mix it up, we get bored and find ourselves eating out more.

I love to cook, but I also don't overwhelm myself. When business or family obligations are hectic, I order from restaurants and have food delivered. This way I'm less stressed, the kids don't get yelled at unnecessarily, and we all enjoy a treat.
