I know that we have a bunch of great leaders on this board and I was asked by a person new to the DS industry, what she should be doing to prepare herself to be a great leader.
I thought that I would bring this over from our company forum and ask for more input from all of you. So here is the question....
Name three things you look for from your upline and name three things you try to do for our own downlines.
Thanks ladies,
Brenda

the biggest things I see -
LOVE PEOPLE - love to help THEM - not YOU - if you help others - you will do well automatically
Lean to let go - you can't make someone succeed - you can only train them, support them, cheer them, etc - but ultimately it is up to them - (learned that one the hard way smileys/smiley5.gif
Listen, listen, listen - what your dreams and goals are might be way different than theirs - help them figure out how your opportunity might help them get what they want in life - read between the lines when you can - then verify
Validate them - let them know what they are feeling, fearing, excited about is OK - and you understand - be thoughtful - when they reach a milestone - acknowledge them however you can -
Inspire them- lead by example, focus on abilities - be positive and upbeat - even sometimes when you don't really feel it - support everyone - not just a few achievers - acknowledge all the accomplishments - even the small ones -
Have FUN !!!
that's the ones that come to mind at 0100 - smileys/smiley36.gif

What I look for in an upline. Well, what mine offers:
1.) Honesty. Never gives me a line but is always honest and up front. She puts my needs ahead of her own.
2.) Consistancy. She is consistant in her training with me, and in her own business.
3.) Availability. I know I can count on her.
What I try to offer my team, the same things as well as:
1.) Relationship. I want to connect. Some of my team members are my closest friends. They help me as much as I help them.
2.) Put their needs/goals ahead of my own. It doesn't matter is I need $1000 in sales from them. What matters is what their own goals are and what they want to accomplish. I ask permission to push, but only if they want it. I've heard horror stories of pushy uplines.
3.) Recognition. Everyone should be recognized for a job well done. I try to recognize not only the tops on my team, but those who are just doing a good, consistant job.

The following are a few things I like to do to keep my teams motivated:
->Hold your own personal incentive/contests for your team.
->Set up your own message boards just for your team.
->Send out a monthly newsletter to your team.
->Personally contact each member of your team at least montly.
->Hold monthly chats.
->Set up a Yahoo Group for your team.
->Hold monthly conference calls.
The important thing is to keep in constant contact with your team members, recognize and reward their hard work and ALWAYS be available.
Take care,
