My friend works from home and has a college age student. She is real upset b/c she had to file taxes using the 1040 which she was told is the only option when working from home. Her income is not that much as her hb is on Social Security, she only works from home pt but filed taxes to get the stimuluscheck. Because of this, her son had his financial aid pkg slashed and may not be able to attend college next yr. Does anybody know if the 1040 form is only form taxes can be filed under when working from home?

The 1099 form is what I used because I'm an IC. If she works from home she may be deemed and "employee" thus the 1040 is correct. However if she is an IC she should use the 1099.
Perhaps she can file an ammended return if the wrong form was used. She should check with whoever did her taxes. Hope this helps.
