Hi ladies! Hoping you can all give me a hand....

I just finished reading one of our books called Christmas Every Morning. I wrote to our co-founders to tell them how very much I enjoyed the book and they've asked me to do a quick product spotlight for this book. Who would I sell it to, who it would be good for, for our next newsletter which goes out Monday.

I'm okay with writing things like this, but love it when I can brainstorm with others to think of other ideas and then present them all together.

Okay, the basic story is a woman whose mother has Alzheimer's. She tries to take care of her herself until she is no longer manageable then puts her in a skilled care facility that is run by an old boyfriend of hers. She resents her mother because she doesn't feel like her mother ever really loved her when she was growing up. She puts her in the facility and then moves away, and only comes back to see her 3 times in 5 years. The xboyfriend calls her to tell her that she's dying and only has a short while to live and convinces her to come. She does, and spends the last days with her mother. Of course, the daughter and the x boyfriend get back together, but the daughter goes from being very bitter towards her mother, to loving her again. The mother is definitely end stage and never even wakes up the whole time the daughter is there, which is like a month.

After finding her mother's journal in her belongings, the daughter realizes what the mother was actually going through while raising her daughter on her own. The daughter realizes that she was only remembering the bad things that happened in her life instead of the good things too. She finally comes to terms with her life and loves her mother once more, then the mother dies.... I bawled when she died! You know she's going to die and she never says one word in the whole book, but it is just so moving!

Anyway, that's the basic idea of the story. I'm thinking this would be a wonderful book for anyone whose family member has alzheimer's and even good for someone who has the early stages of it.

But how could I market it? Besides just describing it at home shows, is there an actual marketing plan I could come up with to feature this book?

Any ideas are great appreciated! and I need to write this up by Sunday night smileys/smiley2.gif so the sooner, the better!

Thanks bunches!

Bev

Forgot to add, the reason it's called Christmas Every Morning is because this facility has a room that is set up like Christmas all year round. Since Alzheimer patients never remember from one day to the next, they make every day Christmas for them so that it's always the best day smileys/smiley1.gif. They have carols playing and presents under the tree that they get to open each day, then they rewrap them for the next day. It's really a very unique idea....

I have an idea!! Why not look on the web under "Google" or "Yahoo" for Alzheimer forums/ messgae boards- I know they have them out there- my granddaughter, Had npd-type c & there were forums for people to go through & visit & discuss what they were going through. Hope this helps.smileys/smiley1.gifRosalee Designer- www.ywave.com/~zelmyrs/

Definately focus on the Baby Boomers as that is the age group that is dealing with aging parents. As far as How to direct the book to those folks... hmmmmmm

Networking groups dealing with aging; displays in craft shows (age group that attends is in your target market); displays in church lobbies (again, a lot w/in your age group); Feature at womens clubs (always looking for speakers and usually in your target age group)

What I was thinking too is setting up your displays by Age group and Type of subject... you can then feature this book easier. Also make itYour "Best Seller". People always want the best sellers....

Hope these help a little bit. I am not much on marketing books, but I gave it a shot... Maybe someone else has better ideas.

Maybe Book Clubs too???? Just a thought.

Mother's Day will be here before you know it.

Maybe a gift for someone going through the lose of a parent. For any reason. I think it would help us all look at our parent differently. A grief group?

It's a wonderful story and you told it nicely in your post. I was hooked. smileys/smiley1.gif
