View Full Version : How Do I Publish My Children's Books?

Hello, I'm new to this forum. At Present I am a stay at home daughter taking care of my invalid mother. I've had time to write and was wondering where I could publish my books on the internet. I would like to sell them as ebooks but don't know where to look for software to make a nicely formated ebook nor where to offer it.
The first time I knew that I wanted to write was in 3rd grade, when my teacher, Miss Hoffman read Little House On the Prairie. I saw in my head everything as she read those books and others. I thought to myself that I wanted to be able to write so that people could see as well. That year I wrote a poem and it was published in Junior Highlights. Through High School and college I worked on the papers and publications and did very well. But, with marriage and other situations that came up I stopped writing until lately. People have always enjoyed what I have written. I would like to share these stories with others. I've also learned to paint and do my own artwork for them as well. Also, I am available to do artwork for your books. See my work at my gallery (http://petecasanova.ws)
Anyway, thanks in advance for your help. Would love to hear from you and any information you could give me.

Kristina,
You might want to take this discussion to the Writing thread up above. We're booksellers, as opposed to authors (although some of us may be authors, too).
I don't know much about creating an e-book... I'd just use a pdf program, but if you want to self-publish, there's Lulu.com and CafePress.

In trying to find the right folder to promote my new biz, which happens to be an E-book series, I saw your post.
I'm here to tell you, that after the many weeks of research I did for E-book compilers, I found the right one for me. I tried EVERY compiler on the net!! I must admit, I am now an affiliate of that compiler, but the only reason I am, is because it's the best one I found to use to publish my books.
If you go to my site, you can download a free trial version that doesn't expire. The only thing you won't be able to do, is sell your E-books, until you buy the registered version for $50. You can try it for however long you want, and I'd be happy to help you get used to using it. Once you get the hang of it, it's really very easy!
There's a link on my site called "Active E-book Compiler". You click on that, and it'll take you to the site where you can download a trial copy. If you buy, then that would be great..I would get a commission! Here's the link; let me know if you decide to try it!

Dear Anne,
My husband this morning just noticed I had some postings. I've been very busy taking care of my ailing mother, packing, cleaning this house because we're moving as well as cleaning and painting the new house that we're moving into also. I'm so tired I just go to bed and haven't paid much attention to anything else. I'm interested in my stories being read but at the moment there is no way I can get anything to you until we are all the way moved in which will not be for several weeks yet. Keep in touch and we'll get together when all of this is over with.

Hi.
I am a writer too, and I publish my books on www.lulu.com (http://www.lulu.com). It only takes less than an hour, and you can see your book in print. Just go on the website and research it. If you have questions you can click on a live chat, and someone will be able to advise you.
I have five books on the lulu website. It's a great site.

Hi Carol,
I just have to ask: did you try traditional publishing first? I have found submissions to be a total pain. Most publishing houses say they are not accepting any new submissions.
Are you making decent money with Lulu? What are the up's and downs? Any hints to share with a newbee??

I really must visit the site again....it seems like something very good for selling one's works! I didn't know they had a special place for kids, though; that's even better!

Lulu.com is a great place for publishing books. It's fast, and not that expensive, and I have published five books and will publish many more. You can email me off the board at greeniconfessbooks@yahoo.com (greeniconfessbooks@yahoo.com) for more information.

Hi.
I tried plenty of traditional publishers, but they make you wait six months, and then they don't respond to you at all. I didn't even get an rejection letter. I was so appalled at this behavior. Then an author friend of mine, Michelle McGriff, self-published her books on iUniverse.com and this is how I got into lulu.com. I love their website, and they work for me. The entire process is very easy, and my book is ready in less than an hour. I chose everything about the book, and I have my own cover designer, through lulu.com and an editor.
I make money, but I couldn't quit my full-time job. I have to promote more, and my schedule don't allow it that much. If you publish on lulu.com they have tools to help you promote your book, but this is something that must be done. If you don't tell anyone about your books, then they won't know you or your books.
I also have a website, and you can email me off line for that at greeniconfessbooks@yahoo.com (greeniconfessbooks@yahoo.com). There are disadvantages of self-publishing, like marketing, but you have complete control, and you don't have to wait around for a rejection or acceptance letter that will never come. Ms. McGriff is with a traditional author now, so self-publishing is the key to a traditional publisher calling you.
If you have more questions please email me, and thanks.

is lulu for printed books or ebooks? I've written a cookbook in dedication to my Dad who died of brain cancer. I've just finished it and looking at getting it copyright and published. I was thinking of either ebook or putting it on cd to avoid the expense of publishing on a book
