An inquiry on behalf of a friend who does not post here.
Is there anyone here who has experience of installing, maintaining and upgrading phpBB version 2.0 (or even better, version 3.0 or 3.0.1) forum software?
My friend is looking for someone experienced, professional and available who can provide both the following services:-
(i) to do a one-off installation (actually of version 3.0.1 but that's very new and someone experienced at setting up version 2.0 would be ok, she thinks) and set it all up as desired;
(ii) to be reasonably available for occasional upgrades and fixing problems as and when needed (this should really take no more than one hour per month, all being well, and maybe a lot less).
My friend is very happy to pay top professional rates for a top professional service (by PayPal, credit-card, check, bank transfer or whatever's easiest for you) but is only willing to put herself in the hands of someone genuinely professional, reliable and experienced. References will be asked for and will be checked out. Please don't offer if it's just something you "know that you can do" but have not actually done before.
In the first instance and for an introduction to my friend, please send me a P.M. rather than replying in this thread - thank you! smileys/smiley2.gif
(In case it needed saying, the project for which this work is needed is not a WAHM's forum!).Edited by: Yulia

I haven't been brave enough to delve into the version 3+, mostly because no clients have needed a forum since it came out, but I've heard it's a bear to work with and the previous versions are better, easier to customize, etc. If your friend is ok with version 2, I might be able to help. Does she just need an install and technical help or a design as well?
If interested, it might be faster to contact me through my website, I don't come here near enough.

I have done 3 conversions to 3.x so far, and find it is very easy to do.
It does offer a lot more control and security features than 2.x ever did, and that can be a bit intimidating to some people. But overall once they get used to it my clients love how easy it is to manage.
Personally I still prefer the 2.x just because of how many years and the dozens of installs I have done with it.
