Hi,
This post is for those of you who work full-time and go to school, or just go to school.. how do you have time to do the business? I just don't really have the time to do marketing when I will be working during the day and going to school at night.. and trying to do schoolwork in between!
How on earth do you do it? lolEdited by: JerseyGirl32812

Jersey girl, I dont have a full time job, but i am a mom of 3, so I guess that may qualify me!! lol smileys/smiley36.gif I think that when you work and go to school, the BEST marketing you can do is word of mouth. Be your own bulletin. Maybe wear one of our t-shirts or something.
Also, if your college has a community bulletin board, put up a flier for working part time. College kids ALWAYS need money. Maybe some of the college departments need fundraisers. While at the school, stop by the office and ask who you would speak to about that and if they do it.
While at work, maybe do a cataloge or book party. Do you have a break room? Place some samples stapled to your biz card and place them in a nice basket that says "take one, free samples". Give one to your teacher for the holidays or to co-workers.
The best advertisement, is YOU!! If you show excitement, others will get excited!! You can do it!!! smileys/smiley2.gif
Well, hope i have offered something you havent thought of yet!! Good luck girl!!! smileys/smiley17.gif

Greetings Jersey Girl!
Actually I do Mia Bella only part time, it is my second 'at home' job that I do 'on the side'. I joined Mia Bella as a treat to me over a year ago and it accidently became a second business just working a few hours a week. I'm so glad it happened!
It is pretty simple to market during your daily schedule. Who do you work with that likes candles? Who do you go to school with that likes candles? Does your school do fundraisers? Utilize the environment around you and you can be marketing as part of your day!
Use your imagination it can be done wherever you are whatever you are doing!

Hi,
I hadn't thought of that.. I guess I can give it a try. I am just thinking that I don't know enough people to market to.. there are people I haven't talked to in years and I was thinking of sending them a letter and a sample but I think that would be kind of tacky.. like "well I haven't talked to you in 3 years but I want you to buy candles from me". They might get mad or something. I read somewhere that the only way to succeed in network marketing is if you have a whole lot of people that you already know, that you can sell to.

Did you happen to read that business plan I created just for college students that I sent you? You inspired me to write that! It fits perfectly for those that have heavier than usual schedules.
You know already that I have a full time day job. At home I also have a husband and three kids I care for - fix dinner, laundry, cleaning, etc. I chose to work the "standard" business plan I created to guide my team members, even though I work the business around my other schedule, I feel comfortable with it.
Like I mentioned before, don't let the business part stress you out. You are working, and in school. Your opportunities for word of mouth advertising just in casual conversation are huge!
Just pin up a flyer here and there where you are allowed on campus as you pass by areas, carry business cards and flyers with you. Staple the scent samples in/on them so you just need to whip one out. Set them down in some common areas, etc.
My business plan goes into more detail for ideas that may suit your needs.
**edited to add - just keep in mind that during your busy time, just keep it simple!Edited by: dreamakr36

Hello!
That is a 'myth' of Network marketing! Now isn't a new business an exciting reason to drop a line to someone you've not spoken to in quite some time?
How about a note for the new year? Something like "Hello! How are you? We've not spoken in awhile and I wanted to drop in to wish you a Happy New year and prosperous 2006! It's been awhile since we've talked and I wanted to tell you what is going on in my life! I'm working full time and going to school! (fill in information about what's going on here!) In addition to that I am so just started my own home based candle business!
Keep the blurb about your business short and sweet, and simply include a business card and a scent sample! No pressure there!
As for daily marketing, who do you see regularly? Simply ask if they burn scented candles! Students, teachers, etc... The hardest part is breaking out of your bubble - the biggest fear is fear itself! The worst thing someone can say is 'no' and for every 'no' a 'yes' is just around the corner!
If you want to succeed you will, it does not matter if you know 1 person or 100 people. Disregard any negative network marketing myths - they are phooey!

With the amazing tools we have, it is easy to drop a line to someone and include a scent sample. You don't need to ask them to even try or buy, but just inform them of what you are doing.
Three scent samples, a brochure, business card and letter are fine. Let them decide from there. Learn to "lifestyle" your business. I did a training on this at our mid-states conference.
Don't worry about carving out specific time right now, but learn how to make better use of the time you have now that is "wasted." PAss out candle drawing and scent sample cards everywhere you go.
Set a goal to pass out 20 a day and watch what happens!

Hi JG,
Anything is possible with this company. I currently have a full time job, have a babysitting bizthat requires alot of my attention. But they have definately not stopped me from building a very nice Scent-Sations business.
It is what you make of it. If you do something everyday, you will be absolutely surprised as to what you will end up with. Try passing out business cards and brochures to people while standing in line at the grocrey store or book store at school. Send letter to friends and family and announce that you have a wonderful new business. If you do something every day to get your name out there, you will make it in this business.
Sandy is a wonderful resource. Use her! She really does want you to succeed. You can also email or call me anytime! I love to help when needed! Do not hesitate to call!smileys/smiley2.gif
The world is your!
Many Blessings,
Natalie

Hi, JG!
I work f/t & take college classes p/t.There are some good ideas here.
I started a MB biz in Sept. I've sold a few candles to friends/family/coworkers. I've also given the candles as gifts, & that helps to get the name/scents "out there." Once people try MB candles, they love them.
I know what you mean about friends/family you haven't talked to for a few years. I chose not to send out letters, but I think LavenderLady has a great idea for a holiday letter.
I wish you the best in your MB biz & with work/school.

Hi JG!smileys/smiley4.gif
I loved film school, including all of the courses, like acting, production, direction, screenplay writing, etc.! I just didn't love working in the field. I was a PA on many film and music video sets in Miami, South Beach, etc.
My advice to you is to be a PA on as many TV and/or film sets as you are able to during school to see what interests you!
Enjoy!

Hi all!
I put up a notice in the laundry room of my apartment community that I have candles for sale (the jar candles) and so far no calls. Our community has a very strict no soliciting rule so I can't put up door hangers or anything. But I think I will try posting the same notice at grocery stores- I live within a 5 mile radius of 3 different stores. I think I will make up samples and put them in a box and leave it in the breakroom at work. And I go to karaoke on Fridays, I think I will try passing out samples there too. We're all kind of like a family there! Oh and I registered a domain name- www.cleanburninglights.com (http://www.cleanburninglights.com). It just forwards to my Scent-team site. I need to make up samples and get business cards, maybe if I just start talking to people and ask "would you like a free sample?" they will take it- everyone loves free goodies, right? :)

JG,
I love the cleanburninglights name very catchy. Good job. Do not get discouraged as I am sure alot of students are home for the holidays. When school starts back I bet you do get some calls:) Keep your chin up.
Yes everyone loves freebies, have you gotten biz cards yet? If so ask a person do they burn scented candles...they say yes, hand them a biz card with sample attached and tell them to visit your site and enter the free drawing. :)
Good Luck and Merry Christmas

You can even create little business cards on your printer that's just for the free candle drawing! No need to use "business card stock" just get a colorful, thick, paper and cut out your advertisement in business card shape, or whatever shape you'd like. Attach a little scent sample to that and hand them out.
"Win a FREE 16 ounce Gourmet Scented Candle!"
"To enter the WEEKLY drawing, visit www........"
"You can only enter once a day... GOOD LUCK!"
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

JG, I Believe the POWER of our candles is in the smell!! Everyone sells jar candles these days, so I can understand why a flier wouldnt be successful to purchase a candle. I have to admit, I probably wouldnt call. (sorrry) lol smileys/smiley36.gif
If you couldnt put a basket somewhere with free samples in it and on a little card attached to it write "To find out more" or "To order", may be more effective becuase people can SMELL how awesome they are!!
Sandy is right, just pass them out whereever you go!! I give them to the bank teller with my deposits, the clerk at the grocery store, etc.
I have NEVER had anyone refuse one!!!!! smileys/smiley2.gif
Maybe talk to a florist shop, tanning salon, etc about consigning. Doesnt cost them anything to put them in the store and they make a profit!! I have a great consignment contract if you are interested you can email me @ iluvsoycandles@yahoo.com
Good luck and lets us know what works for you!!
Hope you had a wonderful and fun Christmas!!!! smileys/smiley2.gif
