Hi - I am very surprised to say I'm sitting here seriously considering a new company. I'm just waiting for a catalog which I will show to friends and family and see if there is any interest in the products, see what DH thinks, and take it from there.
My question is - the companies I am moving between have very similar product lines. How do I explain my jump from one to the other to people without saying negative things about the old company? I want to be as professional AND as honest as possible, because both are important to me.
However, I don't want to get into lengthy discussions about issues I had with the old company in the process. I don't want to hurt their business, and I also don't want to come across as disgruntled and/or unprofessional.
Has anyone done this, and how did you handle it? Or if you haven't done it but you have some ideas of how to handle it, I'd love to hear them! :)

I would just say something like:
I have found this new company, and I really love the products. I wanted to devote my time to just one business right now, so I have chosen this one.
No big deal :)
People in corporate America change jobs all the time. It's not necesarily that the old job/company was bad- they just found something they liked more- same thing here!
Good luck with your decision!

Tell them you were recruited by another company and they compensate you better than your old company and that you love the new product line and can't wait to share it with them!

Honestly? Most customers won't care. (If you're working with similar product lines)
And honestly... just be honest!
There is nothing unprofessional about telling the truth. If there was something that fell short in the old company that caused you to not be able to service your customers as well (let's just say slow shipping, back orders, quality issues).. then your move is in line with serving your customers in the best way. That's honorable.
Alternately... if the old company just doesn't "get it" and they can't grow because they are just lacking the systems that it takes to be growing - there is nothing wrong with saying that you feel you have a better potential of reaching your goals in the new structure. Nothing wrong with that, either.
Most customers aren't going to ask why you left... so that is no big deal. And if other consultants ask - tell the truth.

I pretty much agree. I would just stick with talking about what is great about the new company and not get into a comparison with the old company. I've changed before and Ijust tell people that I have a better opportunity for growth in my new company.

ITA, most customers will not wonder why,but to those who do, just say something like with my current new business, my hostesses arereceiving abetter compensation plan, something along those lines.
Its very easy to be diplomatic and professional without putting down your old company.

Most people buy from one company vs. another because of YOU - the consultant! The consultant is really the "face" of that company to those customers. YOU sell it! I would just say you found this new company and just LOVE it because _____ and want to show it to them! Be excited, upbeat, professional and positive and they will BUY! You are who they LOVE and they will more than likely follow you - they will atleast be CURIOUS so will want to see the new product...that is your chance to SELL it!
Good Luck!!

I would just focus on the positive of the New Company and not talk about negatives of the old...if the new company works better for you...that is what it's all about ...YOU!
I also like the post about it really not being about the "company" but about YOU...that is SO true!
Best of luck in your new venture!!!
