View Full Version : Pill vs Progesterone

Hi all! I hope this thread isn't terribly TMI for anyone. But for years now my BIL has been encouraging me to get off of birth control pills. I suffer with terrible PCOS and the cysts are so painful. My OBGYN tells me I'll need to take bcp's for the rest of my life to control the cyst growth. Well, if this is true, why am I still miserable all the time with cyst growth?! smileys/smiley7.gif I've also been dealing with increased headaches and migraines, depression, anxiety (panic disorder) and just feeling generally tired all the time. In October I started exercising 3-4 times a week and have greatly reduced my intake of refined sugars, but I still feel kind of crappy.
DH and I talk all the time about quitting the bcp's and heading straight to the progesterone cream. My Arbonne sponsor has also suggested the same. The one thing holding me back is the chance for increased fertility. I had a terrible pregnancy with our second son (did 23 weeks of bedrest for a life-threatening situation) and the idea of being pregnant again just doesn't sound good to either of us.
I guess what I'm getting at is this. For those who have experience with the progesterone cream, will it be worth it? I'm kind of scared.smileys/smiley9.gif

Leah,
I'm certainly not an expert, but I don't think the Prolief will necessarily make you more fertile. Yes, if you are unable to get pregnant due to estrogen dominance, it will help you to conceive. But I don't think it makes the average woman more fertile. It will regulate your cycles though, making it easier for you to know when you are ovulating.
HTH!

Yes, I agree with Sarah. I don't believe it will necessarily make a woman more fertile ... it will just help one to become normal again. Do you have any of the Dr Lee books? Here is one of his excerpts about PCOS:
If progesterone levels rise each month during the luteal phase of the
cycle, as they are supposed to do, this maintains the normal synchronal pattern
each month, and PCOS rarely, if ever, occurs. Natural progesterone should be
the basis of PCOS treatment, along with attention to stress, exercise, and
nutrition. </span><br style="color: rgb(0, 0, 102);">
<br style="color: rgb(0, 0, 102);">
If you have PCOS, you can use 15 to 20 mg of progesterone cream daily from day
14 to day 28 of your cycle. If you have a longer or shorter cycle, adjust
accordingly. The disappearance of facial hair and acne are usually obvious
signs that hormones are becoming balanced, but to see these results, you'll
need to give the treatment at least six months, in conjunction with proper diet
and exercise. If your symptoms fade, try gradually easing off the progesterone
(take half the dose, for example) and see how it goes. If your symptoms return,
stay on the full dose for six more months. Ideally, as a young woman you would
use the progesterone cream only during the months you need it, and encourage
your body to return to its own normal hormonal rhythms as much as possible.
Some women with many damaged follicles may always need to supplement with a
little bit of progesterone cream.</span> </span>
This is a testimonial from a woman who suffers with PCOS:
I wanted to make this post
in hopes that I might help someone else. I have PCOS. I’ve had it all my life. I wanted a baby so bad, I want to be beautiful and skinny and I ALSO want to be healthy! </span>
I have started using
something called PROLIEF made by Arbonne International. It is a 100% natural
progesterone cream. (most on the market are not 100% natural). This is the most
wonderful gift ever! I have been on it a very short time and have started my
period (haven't had it in 7 months) my face has started clearing up, my mood is
more stable and I have lost a little bit of weight. (Not a ton, but enough to
notice a difference).</span>
</span>I KNOW that this product has helped stabilize my hormones.
I have asked many times why my Dr. never told me about it and it is because the
drug companies cannot patent it because it is natural. So they can't make money off of it. Most Drs don't realize it is there. It is WONDERFUL!!!!!! I
have seen several women have children after being on it for a few months. Some
as few as three months. I am SO excited to be on it. I am thrilled to wake up
everyday and be able to use it. It also helps with a ton of other stuff, but I
know it was made JUST FOR ME & my PCOS. :-) </span>I am recommending this
product to EVERYONE! Just please, if you start to take it, remember that it
needs to be natural, USP progesterone. Arbonne makes it great. It has also
helped my sex drive! :-) </span>

Ok, I NEED to get that Dr. Lee book. Do you know what it's called? That sounds so much like the life I'd like to have. I don't have a problem with weight, except right in the abdomen (I always look 5 or 6 months pregnant). This just sounds so huge to me, I am getting more and more convinced. But if I could have the book, I think that would help my husband, too.
