Hello Ladies, I have a question and I am going to be very careful not to make this seem at all like an ad.
My question is for those of you who are leaders in your chosen companies. I am starting with a company who isn't even public yet and I am trying to find other proven leaders who would be interested in this opportunity.
I'm a bit unsure where it would be ethical to look as well ashow they mightreact tobeing contacted in sort of a "cold call" type email.
I don't want to turn anyone off of this company, but I want to give the opp at the same time. How would you all react to being contacted like that? I'm not asking if you'd like me to contact you. I'm asking how you would react if someone sent you an email telling you about a new company.
I am trying really hard to make sure this is not sounding like an ad here. I really would like your feedback on this and I don't want my topic being deleted. smileys/smiley1.gifThere is a time issue to building this leadership team so your quick responses are much appreciated.
Thanks to all of you,
Brenda Palstring

Hi Brenda--
I don't like getting emails that sound like an ad. However, if someone posts I'm soo excited, I just started blah, blah, blah and it sounds interesting, I'll look at it. I've never changed because I love the company I'm with now, but that would be the best way. Use your signature to say you are looking for leaders.
Best of luck! What company?

Hi Debbie~
Thanks for your input. It's important to me. I don't like to do the "hard sale" on people, I just know that I was happy to hear about this and thought others might like to know too.
The company is Taste of Home Entertaining and you can see it at
www.entertainingathome.com (http://www.entertainingathome.com)
If you're interested, please email me privately at palstring@cox.net. There is a password protected site you go to in order to reserve your spot.
I would love to hear input from others too. I know we all have our own ideas, but I would like to get a general idea of what people reaction to this would be.
Thanks everyone,
Brenda

I really agree with Debbie.
I have a friend who started a new biz this past year. She has called me several times to tell me that I would be great in her biz and that I need to quit mine and join hers. She knows that I am a Founding Leader and a Director with BYB. She knows that I have spent a lot of time building, developing, and training my team & that I love my company. I am now to the point that I don't even want to answer the phone when she calls because she is constantly trying to recruit me. I also have a good friend, Sarah, who is a manager with Discovery Toys. Last year she receivedtwo emails fromdifferent womenwho found her website and saw that she was a manager. The email told her about a new company and encouraged her to quit DT and join this new company. My friend was extreemly ticked!
She and I loveour companies as do most leaders.Leaders are excited about their companies and have worked hard to establish a business. They have often worked for years building a team and a client & hostess base. They did this because theylove their company. I would encourage you to never contact a leader directly, especially one you don't know personally, in an attempt to recriut them. Most companies have a policy that forbids recruiting from other companies.
Your opportunity looks great and I am sure that you will experience much success. Good Luck to you onyour new biz.

Thank you Marianne. I appreciate the input. I will be sure to keep this in mind when talking to possible leaders. I truly do not want to offend anyone. I want to go about this the right way. smileys/smiley1.gif
Just to be clear, I haven't asked anyone to leave the company they are with. So far there are no rules about doing two at one time, but perhaps there will be in the future. They are still in the pre-launch stages.
I, too, have put almost three years into my present company and still think it's a great company. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to be founding consultant like yourself.
I am very encouraged by leaders such as yourself. I really am. It's very important to me to hear others points of view on things. I hope to be as successful as you all have been in your present companies and I wish continued success to everyone!! smileys/smiley1.gif
And I PROMISE to not hound or badger my friends and family about this. LOL
Happy Holidays everyone!!

I agree with the others.... I hate SPAM, so if someone emails me about a business opp and it's not from someone I know personally, I will delete it.
Heck, we ALL want leaders under us smileys/smiley36.gif! If it were that easy to find leaders and hard working people from other companies to join under us, we'd all be doing it smileys/smiley2.gif
My suggestion for you is if you know a leader personallyin another business who isn't happy with their company, or even if you know someone who is a hard worker and would be great in your business, then go ahead and contact them. But don't try to recruit them! Just tell them you are excited about a new business you are with and ask them if they know anyone that would be interested. Tell them briefly what it is and ask them to contact you if they know someone interested. But I like said, just share your business with them, don't try to recruit them! Just my suggestion...

I;d just be careful who you email.. someone in your company contacted a person at our home office b/c they thought she was a consultant! Not quite sure where they got the info but it wasn't good business!
I agree about sharing your opp vs recruiting those happy with their company..

This is terrific ladies. I do really appreciate your input.
When I asked how my name came up in this search, I was told that there was some research done in all the direct sales company and most of all the names were recommended by someone else. So perhaps someone just knew your corporate gal was involved with direct sales and was in a high level there. LOL
Again thank you everyone for your input. I guess I'll let my own excitement about this do the talking for me. smileys/smiley36.gif

I posted this comment in the "other" thread going about this new
company and I'll say it again. When you sign up with a company, your
contact information is private and is protected by law. AND there is no
way that ANY company would give out the information on their leaders to
ANYONE else...it would be suicide. A LOT of us have been contacted with
emails saying "I was given your name as one of the DSA's experienced
leaders" but there is no WAY that my company would have given out that
information and there is no "source" that has information on "current
leaders in the DS industry".
The contact information is being taken from websites like this, and
there are hundreds of them on the net, by people who are paid to read
through posts like this and find "Director" etc listed in sigs and
titles. They often follow links back to websites and make sure too. So
no research was done, trust me because there is no way to "research"
who is currently active in the industry AND a leader unless you are
pulling names off the internet or from ad sites. I promise you MY
company didn't give them my name...they love me too much. And the home
office policy is to take information from interested people and then
contact the CONSULTANT to get back to them...they never give out our
information.
Good luck though!

I don't think I ever suggested that the companies themselves where giving out information. You are saying that there was no research, but if going to websites and searching out people who have answered posts about new companies or having found people who are actively working the business they are with, if that's not research, then what would be the definition of research? smileys/smiley2.gifI'm not being ugly, really I'm not. I am grateful for everyon'es opinions.
I certainly don't think I'm so special that they contacted me, LOL but I am sure glad they did. As I said in my post on the other thread on this subject, I am not at all thinking this going to be a free ride. I think it will be as much work, if not more, than my current company. But if I can take the chance at being at the top, I'm not going to let it pass by.
I am not actively searching out leaders in other companies, and I am not actively searching out leaders in my own company, that's for sure. In my experiece with my company, I have lost two uplinesand I'vehad one that just disappeared for a long period of time. Now I deal with an upline that has a huge team and not a lot of time to give personal attention to many. She's great, smartand always is nice, but she doesn't have the time to reach out and work with me on a personal level. I don't take that personally, after all she has a huge team. That's why I am trying to find experienced leaders. I don't want someone left in the cold like I was and I will always be checking to make sure my leaders are reaching out.
Being that there is no money out of pocket, I have the chance to get in very early, and I'm not being asked to leave any company, I can't think of a reason not to get involved and see where this goes. At this point, I can't find a downside. smileys/smiley1.gif
I appreciate everyone's input and I can see you are passionate about your company and that is a great thing. I am going to venture to say that you would not take kindly to the "cold call" email. I can see that many would react the same way. I have not done that and do not intend to.
Thank you again for everyone for sharing your experience and opinions with me. I really am learning and shaping my approach. I certainly don't want to tick anyone off. I am still very excited about this opportunity and only time will tell. smileys/smiley4.gifEdited by: BrendaLP

I agree with many of the posts that recommend that you don't do "cold"
emails/calls to leaders. I have been contacted about this same
opportunity and I have no interest what so ever, but I started the
initial thread on the boards about it, because I figured others would
be interested. I have already "recruited" people for my friend
that is doing it, just by mentioning it here and in talking with other
friends(she already has more than 40 people signed up).
I LOVE my business and I have no intentions of giving up all the hard
work I did to get where I am with it and I would be insulted if I
started getting emails from people trying to get me to leave.
Women who are leaders in DS companies are intelligent women and if they
are interested in your opportunity they will contact you because of
your signature line. I understand your excitement about the new
opportunity you have, but be very careful about stepping on the wrong
toes!
Another thing to consider is that, in my experience, seasoned direct
sales leaders don't always make the best consultants. They have
worked in the industry and know how they want it to work and every
company does things differently, so that can cause problems. It
is also so much fun to take someone that is completely new to DS and
help them to become a great leader!
I really do think that you have a great opportunity with Taste of Home
and I am excited to help out my friend and be one of the first to host
a show for her! Good luck to you!

Thank you Jody for the great suggestion and link. I will be checking it out.
Also Sarah, thank you for your input. Congrats to your friend for growing her downline that fast. That's amazing. You'rea good friend. Sounds like she will be very busy when we go live.
I have a few women who I have signed who I know will be great leaders in this company. They are experienced and that is going to be a big help when things start moving as fast as I expect them to. And for the record, it was not through an email or phone call. LOL I think you're right about helping newbies get a running start too. I am working on a plan that will get them up to speed quickly and then continue to help them as the grow their own teams too.
I had originally started this thread to get feedback about how everyone felt about getting the cold call email. I have gotten some great support and I was surprised at some of the awful messages I was receiving too. I didn't expect women at the level they were at to act that way. Fortunately, I haven't let it stop my excitement over this opportunity. It's actually fueled me on. smileys/smiley1.gif

Brenda,
I would personally start with new people, rather than putting out "feelers"
with someone already in a company. I do understand and respect your
asking the question though. It's a very critical time (going through the
labor pains of a pre-launch), and I am contacting those not already in a
Direct Sales company. Easier to educate than to re-educate, in my view.
Sorry you got some unfortunate responses, but that's the way it goes
when you are the new kid, and excited...
My best,
Nondy

Thank you to both of you. I really do appreciate the input.
I have been discussing this with a few of my personal friends who are also in DS and we have come up with a plan. LOL
Since I have a few leaders in my DL at this point, I am going to carefully choose some new comers to bring into this. I have chose some experienced people so that we could work together to insure our team is successful. Because I have some successful women that are going to be great, I will have more time to devote to a new comer. However, I am going to keep the new comers to a certain number so that I will have time to give them the attention they will need when we begin. I don't want to give anyone the impression that I've gotten to big to really be of help. LOL
This is a great opportunity for all of us. Reserving the spots and getting our teams in order is just the beginning. It's a big part of the beginning, and we are all going about it in our own way, but no matter how we do it, it's going to fun!!!
Thanks to Nondy, Deb, Sarah, Jodyand everyoneelse who have been so supportive. I really mean that and it's great to know there are some great women here willing to help out other women in this industry.
Sincerely,
Brenda

I think also that having the ability to send folks to the online area to reserve
their position with no obligation is helpful and a real time saver. Contacting
us for the pass code is not too intimidating, I think. I don't think we could
make it much easier, nd I love having a "paint-by-numbers" approach!

I own a direct sales company and have searched high and low for that "leader" after lots of work/mistakes highs and lows I have realized I need to make my company the absolute best it can be, something I am proud to offer as a business as well as product, and go out and "git r done", I discovered I am the leader I was looking for. If I go out do an awesome retreat, sale my products with integrity, offer great customer service, share the opporutunity with everyone and follow up, than I attract that exact kind of person!
Brenda, it sounds like you can attract that leader, because you are one, even if your success level with your current company is not where you want it to be, your opportunities, as always in this business are limitless.
Good luck with you new venture, I know this company is gonna rock!

Wow Kimberly. That is really the nicest thing I've heard all week!! Are you sure you don't want to join me. LOL smileys/smiley2.gif
Really Kimberly, I can see that you are very happy and successful where you are. You have to be one of the top producers for your company and congrats on knowing what makes a good leader. I am just flattered that you put me in that catagory.
Thanks again. It feels good to hear from someone outside the situation.

Brenda, I am the owner of the company,(so I can't join you)not necessarily always the top producer, but I'm happy to set the bar, and to see others acheive success!
Keep being positive and getting the word out about what you do!
