As a teenager my mother bought Mary Kay & Avon products for me, but........

Does everyone remember the first actual direct sales party they attended?

Mine was for Jafra, and I think the year was 1989.

I think the first one I attended was a Tupperware party. Since I went to college in my home town, it was hosted by one of my church members. Being in college, I had no use for the product at the time, but was told to come for the party games & food. LOL. Forgot about that till this post! Had to bearound 1980. Thanks for the memories! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

Oh heck. lol I have to go back to the 60's to talk about my first party experiences. lol

The first one I can remember, is a Stanely home party. There was also some clothing party which I can't remember the name of, but I still had some baby doll pajamas from them when I got married, which I still wore. l wish I could remember the name of that company.

Pat,

Was it Petra or Queensway? Now you have me thinking....LOL. What else to do on a snowy, yucky day in PA? Other than catching up on cleaning. There was another one - "something" Fashions I think.

Again, good post! Thanks!

Edited to add: What about Undercoverwear? They've been around for over 50 yrs I think. Now they've branched out to include romance products.Edited by: thatspagirl

Neither of those sound right. lol I'm talking about when I was a child and attended with my Mom. I'm going to have to ask her.

All I know is, these clothes lasted forever! lol

Mine was Tupperware back in the early 80s. I actually STILL have a few things from then! TW is VERY well made!

I used to attend Tupperware parties with my mom and grandmother when I was a kid. My mom must have hosted a few because I remember having all of the toys!

As an adult I was never really into the whole home party thing. Then I got invited to a friend's Gold Canyon party shortly after my daughter was born. My hubby encouraged me to attend to get out of the house for some me time. I thought I was going just to support my friend and had my mind set that I wouldn't spend more than $30 as we were on a tight budget since I was trying to be a SAHM. After trying the products, I thought they were great and joined up a few months later.

I think I was in first grade...around '81, my mom made me go to my aunt's tupperware party. i remember the lady gave me an orange peeler or something like that...i think my mom still has it :O)

My mom never had home parties, so I didn't attend one until I was out of the house. The first one I ever went to was a romance (toy) party http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif. I was pregnant with my twins, so needless to say my mind was not "into" the product at the time, lol. I think I did buy something though, just not in the "toy" catagory. Oh yeah, and I remember that I was not able to participate in the game where you stood in a circle and passed the "toy" to each other using only your knees. My huge pregnant stomach was too much in the way,lol http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif

I remember it was a lot of fun though!!

It was in the late 90's during my first marriage. My ex MIL hosted a Collesse party. I probably spelled that wrong but they sold lingerie, they are closed now. Alot of classy items. Actually, whenI joined Petra I thought they reminded me of that company. It was fun!

When I was young it was Tupperware. My mom was a representative. She had the station wagon and all. I think when I got older it may have been Home Interiors, because my sister was a rep.

My first was a Tupperware party in the mid 90's with my mom. I remember being so excited because I won a smidget LOL and here I am a consultant now and still love my smidgets LOL

I think the only other parties I went to were both candle ones on military bases, forget which company but I wasn't impressed personally.

The first 2 parties I ever attended (both were in the same week) were parties for Aloette and one for Mary Kay.

My mom had a couple Tupperware/Home Interior parties when I was young...my first party as an adult was probably Pampered Chef at my friend Carrie's house - it was Jan 1998 I was just married almost a year, had a new baby and was 23...I signed up at the party! LOL

My then-husbnad was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany (1993/1994). Tupperware seemed to be the onlgy direct sales company allowed over there. So that was the party I went to. And I learned how to peel a potato...woo hoo!
I signed up but since there were alot of bored Army wives, that was way oversaturated! Every other woman you met was a Rep. http://wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

I just remembered the name of that clothes company. "DuctchMaid." Don't know if that's how they wrote it. They even sold underwear! It, too, lasted a really, really long time. lol

Oh this is easy! I went to a Mary Kay party, bought the whole set back when there were lip palettes and eye shadow palettes! That was in 1981! Funny though, the girl never tried to recruit me even though I was a good customer. I didn't start selling until 10 years later, 1991 and was recruited by someone else!

In response to Ravish30's post above: I remember Christmas Around The World, my girlfriend hosted a party that I attended. I thought hers was in the early 90's though, because I recall getting all excited to purchase Christmas decor for my husband's and my first Christmas together in our first home.Edited by: blisstopiabox

It could be the early 90's, not really sure but I do know it was around 1986 and 1987 that I was attending alot of the House Of Lloyd parties and I believe Christmas Around The World was a branch off from that company. Matter of fact, I still have my antique looking school-house style oak cabinet clock that I got from H.O.L. back then...its in my den.

That's neat to hear that you ladies have kept ahold of an item purchased from them way back. I have this one Santa, that I have always loved, that I set out every year. I don't have any other items anymore as my decorating taste & colors have changed throughout the years. It's fun bringing back the memories!

If I remember correctly my first party was something called "fashion two twenty" or something like that?? or was it a line like from Mary Kay? Can't remember but seems it was gold colored.... It was in the late 70s/early 80s and they had skincare and makeup...of course my friend's mom was holding it and we got to be there too :) Good Grief! Gettin' old!

PartyLite!I was an adult and myfirst husband attended with me. It was more of an open house, and it was beautiful, the consultant had all her inventory burning and her whole livingroom was glowing with the glass and candle light. It really was mesmerizing and the fragrance in her home was heavenly.

I would have to say Tupperware, since that is what I took to college to use in my dorm. I do remember Jafra, Tiara (I think) crystal, and Colesce (clothing) during my early working years after college.

I didn't go to any parties until about 1991 when I was just graduated from college and it was either Tupperware OR Beauticontrol--I don't know which came first, but I remember attending both right after being a young adult in the "world" for the first time.

Oh boy.... what memories!

Mine would have been back in the 60's, as my mom died of breast cancer in 1972. I remember her selling Coppercraft Guild. (now there is one that I haven't seen any of you mention, yet!). Coppercraft had a spinning wheel as part of their logo.

I still remember Mom's friend - Emily Renfrew - who signed her up with the copper. Then... I remember my Mom and her friend selling Princess House.

At the time - back in the 60s - both of these companies were very elegant and the products were quite lovely. Women got all dressed up to go to the parties... it was quite the social thing!

I still remember the big, black cases with straps around them that held the goodies - and the green felt bags that the copper products went into for protection.

Fun memories.

The little jaunt down memory lane brought me to the picture above...

The woman in the front is Angela Preuss, holding up a 1971 sales goal for Coppercraft Guild

Look a the numbers the other women are holding... those were some mighty big numbers back then! (considering you could buy a new car back then for less than $3,000. :) )

I just thought someone else might get a kick out of this...

Have a good day, everyone....

My first was PartyLite and I was so nervous to go. I had never been to a home party before. Of course once I was there I loved it and had so much fun. I booked a party for myself. Now I can see why I'm into the home party business. I was hooked from the beginning.
