Hi ladies!

I just thought of another question that hadn't even entered my mind til now. Are we able to take credit card orders at all, and if so how do we get set up for that? I was just thinking that having that ability might make it easier when dealing with people who found your site on the internet or people you meet in stores/banks, etc. that don't know you. I know if I didn't know a person I'd be hesitant to give them money not knowing if you'll end up getting your candle or not. How have you ladies dealt with that?

Thanks!!!smileys/smiley4.gif

Hi Gail-

The company does not give you the abilty to accept Credit Card payments, this is something you'd have to obtain on your own. (via PayPal, etc...)

Most people accept checks made out to themselves or their company name.

If you run across someone who is hesitant to pay up front, you could suggest HALF up front and the remainder upon delivery.

Oh okay, good idea Tracy, paying half up front will show them I'm legit! Thanks!

I would definately suggest paypal if you are dealing with someone over the internet. You dont even have to have a merchant account, espeically if they want to place the funds immediately with you rather than a delayed credit as with a credit card. I have never had a problem with people paying by check or cash.Do what you feel comfortable with!! That is the beauty of YOUR business!! smileys/smiley2.gif

Good Luck! smileys/smiley1.gif

Hi Gail,

I am have always used Paypal for my credit card transactions. I have never had any problem with it at all. For the most part, people have been ok with giving me money or a check. But for the transactions that I have done online, I generally use paypal. If not the mail me a check or money order.

Hope that helps!smileys/smiley17.gif

Many Blessings,

Another reasonably pricedoption if you do some holiday bazaars, craft fairs or home parties where you will actually be able to imprint the credit card is to try: http://www.thompsonmerchant.com/services/Touch-Pay/Touch-Pay (http://www.thompsonmerchant.com/services/Touch-Pay/Touch-Pay.html) .html

I've been using it for the past couple months and it works just exactly as they describe. I still use PayPal for most of my internet sales, but Touch pay is great for the other places where you don't have a computer handy or someone is uncomfortable with PayPal.

I have a business account set up with PayPal. I've not had a problem accepting transactions with the customers using it. I send them a detailed invoice and they follow the links to make payment using either their paypal account or using a credit or debit card. I do always send out tracking information with the package so the customer knows when it's being shipped. I've not had a problem with it yet, and most recently I had a customer pay me a couple hundred dollars for his Mia Bella Candles via paypal and he was a complete stranger to me and found my information on Ryze.

I think in this day and age, customers know that if there is a problem with the transaction, they can always dispute it with PayPal as well as their bank. For my end, I always just keep all documentation that the items I ship out, I keep on a disc as well as print outs in my "business files".

I personally don't use or endorse PayPal. I was just using them as an example. I'm not sure if any of you are aware, but Jackie Ulmer just had her PayPal account froze. It seems to be the "norm" with PayPal as I have heard many horror stories about them.

They are operating as a bank without bank licensing and are not allowedto operate insome states. They also have many active lawsuits against them.

I'm not trying to persuade anyone to NOT use them, but speaking from a bad experience myself, I just wanted to give you a heads up.

There are other alternatives to PayPal. But if it works for you ... that's great.

Yes,Jackie emailed me to let me know she was not using paypal anymore but didnt offer an explaination. Interesting.....

I have never had a problem with them. But i dont use it on a daily basis either or for large transactions. Thanks forthe insight.

I've heard of problems with PayPal, thankfully I've had none in 5 years..... here's hoping for another 5! Although as business picks up more, I will be looking for alternative merchant services anyway.

You might want to check out Propay. That's what I used when I was with Tastefully Simple (Bittersweet processes credit cards for us). I think their fees are similar to Paypal. One good thing about it is that your customer doesn't have to have a propay account also - where they do with Paypal.

Actually, PayPal has changed it's policy. You donot have to have a PayPal account to make a payment.
