Hi, there,
I would keep reading everything that you can find on this board. This board really helped me get my start 2 years ago. Then, I met one of my first clients here too!
I'd also look on CraigsList.com (or search crazedlist.org) for virtual jobs (watch for the scams) and Guru.com.
I mostly work with PPC and SEO marketing right now, but I started as a marketing consultant. A good proposal letter and resume doesn't hurt either.

Hi Iqgirl,
You have come to the right place if you want to learn about marketing
you should always look into an opportunity and check it out well
before joining as there are a lot of scammers out there ready to make a quick buck.
If you're ever in doubt there is always someone here to help.

Great news! Sorry that I didn't check back sooner...
But, you asked, how long should I wait for a reply. I would say "Don't wait for a reply." I am constantly advertising myself and applying for openings. I don't expect or wait for a reply. Also, don't forget to keep marketing when you are BUSY! Even in the busy times, I keep putting my name out there. You never know when you'll find that next great thing.
Good luck with your new adventure!

I agree with Shanee.
When I apply for a job, I don't apply for just one. I try to look for all open jobs with my qualifications and I apply to all of them. If I'm lucky and I get more than one job, that's when I decide what to take. But when applying, I try not to be selective of companies (except for spams and those who clearly do not value a person's worth) when applying. And it has worked.
Always remember that before you apply for a job, ask yourself first if you'll be happy doing that job or if you'll learn a lot from it. If you are positive about a job, then just go for it!
Good luck with the job hunt!

Oh my gosh, the possibilities are tremendous. But first I have to tell you, spend some finding out about the possibilities and then what might suit you.
Your background in computer traing and online training is perfect. You could offer services, write a trainingguide or create an informational website. If I were you I'd go with creating an informational guide and then market that to people who need to learn about that topic.
I'd be happy to help, just pm me smileys/smiley1.gif
Best of luck to you. I think you could do very well!

I completely agree with everyone else. But networking is only one part of the equation. Don't forget about marketing...specifically, marketing yourself. You did that a little in your first post by talking about your background. But it may help to include specific examples of some things you've already done. By doing that, you will hopefully find a good fit...or maybe a good fit will find you!

i understand how you feel, perhaps this will help you!
Introduction
Just by searching the internet you will immediately notice that there are literally thousands of different MLM opportunities out there. Choosing which one is the right one for you and suits you best, can be a long and tedious task. I have many years of experience in the MLM industry and have, over the years, investigated hundreds of opportunities. Through my experience, I want to share with you some important factors that you need to consider, prior to joining any MLM company.
Step 1 - Company structure & training
Investigate the structure of the company and how the downline is build. Through the years, the structure of most MLM companies have drastically changed, but there are still some old skool businesses out there, using old methods, strategies and out-of-date trainings. All of which simply are not applicable any longer in today's markets. Make sure that the company you are thinking of joining offers ongoing training & support, that is up-to-date and useful for all of your marketing efforts.
Step 2 - The compensation plan
Is the payment structure that they offer lucrative? Do you have to pass-up any sales? If so, run away! If you are not able to start earning money as from your first sale, you are dealing with an old skool MLM company. Preferably you need to see a compensation plan that offers 100% matching override commissions.
Step 3 - Duplication
Do some research on the possibility of duplication. Is the opportunity you are interested in easy to copy? Perhaps you learn very quickly, but you also want to know if, for instance, a teenager, or a grandmother can do the job. What you really want is to create a viral downline, with anybody in your team becoming successful. Because only through that method, you can start earning significant income. So make sure that anyone is capable of duplicating the home business opportunity.
Step 4 - The product package
The other thing that is important as well, is the product package they are offering. Does the product excite you? Because if it does, you have a better chance of succeeding, since you have an affinity with the product package.
Conclusion
What I have described above are the 4 most important things that you should look at prior to joining any MLM opportunity. There can of course be other factors that you wish to investigate. If you follow these four steps you will eliminate the failure factor and being suckered into a program that is doomed to fail.
One more word of advice, there is a learning curve. For some this may only be a week, for other 4 weeks or even longer. Treat your home business like a real business. You will have to work for it. Itīs not a sit on the fence and get rich quick scheme. If you stick to it, you will succeed! Good luck with finding the right home based business opportunity for YOU.

I have another good piece of advice to you, this is a copy of an article I posted on Ezine:
If you are an owner of an online business, or if you are looking at starting a home based business, then this article is right for you.
In order to become successful, there are several aspects that are vitally important. Self branding is probably the most important factor. People will want to know with whom they are dealing with. You need to establish a relationship with your prospects. This is very important and most internet marketeers fail to do this. Through self branding you create a flow of communication and people will come to you, instead of you having to track down new prospects. You want to become the hunted, and not the hunter.
To self brand yourself on the internet you can start using several methods that are available for free. Let me describe a few.
1. Article Writing
Start writing articles (like this one for example) on topics that are applicable and relevant to your business. Make sure to include some good keywords in your title, relevant to the article text. There are several article websites where you can submit your article to. I am personally a great fan of Ezinearticles.com. Make sure though that the article you submit is unique and written by yourself. If you are replicating somebody else's article your account will be suspended.
At the bottom of the article they can see your name, and your website link which they will most likely click on because they have become curious about what it is that you do. Since they searched on the internet for topics relating to your business, they are most likely to be qualifying prospects too, looking for a home based business opportunity.
2. Video production
Similar to article writing, but then you talking into the camera about topics relevant to your business. Be sincere and honest. Introduce yourself, tell them a little bit about yourself and then continue chatting about whatever message you wish to communicate to your prospects. There are many video sites available to which you can submit your video such as YouTube, MetaCafe, Google etc... Or, you can submit your video to several video sites at the same time if you use TubeMogul.
In your profile will be a link to your website that visitors can click on. Again, they are most likely qualifying prospects.
3. Blogging
Start blogging. Let people know what it is you do, who you are. They need to see that you are a real person with a family. This is also a great way of showing them what you are interested in, what your hobbies are etc... ... Your blog should not be sales orientated, as this will scare people away from your blog site.
4. Social Networking
There are many social networking sites out there, such as FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter, Squido etc... . Simply start an account with all of these and brand yourself on the page. Place some pictures of you and your family for example. Twitter however, is a little different. Here you don't get your own page, but you simply 'tweet' what you are doing. Keep in mind that all of these sites are social networking sites and should not be exploited for sales marketing efforts. Keep it simple, keep it fun. Show them you are a funny person and have a life as well. If you start spamming on these site, people will run away from you and not come back.
The 4 self branding methods as described in this article are all for free. I personally find them very effective and create a significant amount of good traffic to your website. Keep in mind though that it is a numbers game. One article is not enough. One video is not enough. Aim to produce one video per day and one article per day. By doing this, after letīs say, 3 months, you will have 90 articles out there, and 90 videos! And the beauty of it all is, they will be out there, forever! (unless you delete them).
So, get cracking with your self branding efforts and you will soon see that you get more traffic to your website, resulting in more prospects and more sales!

There are various different ways in order to attract visitors to your website, but my favourite method would have to be the writing of articles and posting them to Ezinearticles. It may take you some extra effort in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, you will see more prospects finding your website. In order to optimise your article for indexing by search engines, there are a number of guidelines you need to adhere to. After all, you want your marketing campaign to be successful.
Title
The title of your article should be short and described in such a way that it delivers on the body of your content. I recommend using one keyword or keyword phrase in the title of your article and repeat that a few times in your article. Donīt overdo it because your article may get rejected or search engines identify your article as spam. Always read the Terms Of Use and Guidelines of the website you are submitting your article to!
Content
The content of your article should be of good quality, unique, informative, interesting and grammatically correct. Be aware of spelling mistakes and run a spell checker over your article prior to submission. If you are stating facts or/and figures, use bullet points or numbers and make sure what your are communicating is true and not misleading. Donīt deviate from the matter of your article and stick to the point. Keep the article short (400-500 words). You want your reader to be intrigued by the article so they will want to know more.
If you follow these few rules, you will get the most out of your article.
Keywords
In order to get the most out of your marketing campaign efforts you will want to use keywords. Do some research on the keywords that you choose. I personally use WordTracker for this. You want to avoid using keywords that many other article writers are using. If the competition is too high, your article will not be ranked high enough in the search engines, thus people will not find it. Try to find one keyword (or keyword phrase) for your article and use that a few times in your article body. (see also paragraph 'Title' in this article).
Keyword density
Keyword density is the measurement in percentage, the number of times a keyword or phrase appears compared to the total number of words in a page. In the context of search engine optimisation keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase. (Source: Wikipedia)
Once you have mastered this, your article will be ranked very high in search engines.
What I described above are in my personal opinion the 4 most important guidelines you need to adhere to. There are certainly more methods you can use to write articles that are properly optimised. Studying the subject of Article Marketing and optimisation is certainly worth it. You will notice the effects soon enough! More targeted traffic is finding your website and your sales will increase.
