Hi everyone,
I am a website content writer and usually hang out over at the WAHMs who write. I have head over here because I want to create a website in my niche (mental health).

I just tried to use NVU and well, didn't get very far. I have no idea about HTML so I thought NVU would be good for me. I downloaded a free template from a site and tried to use it. Then I discovered that I had to change the images that came with it so that it could be used with my page. But then I couldn't get that right with the background and other sorts of problems. So it was not a successful attempt, to say the least. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

So I am wondering, is there a simpler programI could use? Is there anything out there where you can just point and click on a template and enter in your own wording? Then you can change the images to other images just by clicking on it and putting in the destination for the image you want?

I don't really want a very complex site but I do want it to look somewhat professional. Just wish I could take the template I found and change it easier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

Maybe you could start out with a Wordpress blog. There are many great free templates out there. And Wordpress is free - you would only need to buy your domain name and a hosting account. And I think a LOT of hosts offer "one click" installation of Wordpress, so it's super easy to get it going.

Then in the future, you could always hire someone to design a custom Wordpress template/theme that would fit your site and content perfectly.

I suggest Wordpress because I know it well, and I know it's very user friendly. It is a little like working with a word processing program.

I too highly recommend wordpress. I've designed several sites and blogs using it. It's really easy to use once you play around with it.

SCMOM, have you used Wordpress before? If not, let us know and we'll walk you through getting it all set up. And thanks for your comment about my site! smileys/smiley1.gif

Thanks so much!
I have used wordpress before but very simply. I created this page on wordpress, Freelance Writing Service (http://freelancewritingservice.wordpress.com)

I am not happy with it at all. So this is why I want to create something else. I went ahead and looked up some templates to use and I found one that I really like. Now, the next thing is to find out how to get it on the Wordpress site.

Do I have to purchase the credits to do this?
Or do I need to go ahead and find a domain and host before I can do anything?

Thanks again everyone!Edited by: SCMOM

Well, if you want to have your own domain name instead of having the .wordpress in your url, you'll need to purchase both a domain name and a hosting account. I recommend GoDaddy for domain names and as far as hosting goes, there are lots of good options out there. We can direct you to a few good ones if you need us to.

Then once you have both of those and working together (involves pointing the domain to the host), you could probably just use your control panel to install the latest Wordpress version. My host, and many others, offer the one click installation through something called Fantastico.

Now you're ready for the fun part. Is the theme you found free? If so, all you need to do is download it and then upload it to your server. If it's not free, then yes, you'll need to pay for it.

Does that help?

Yes, it does Susie! Thank you so much for your help. I will be working on this in a the next couple of days. I have some writing work to do this week and will have to find some time to get my site going. Thank you again for taking the time to answer all of my questions!!
