I've been trying to figure out how @rbonne incorporates the FDA, and why....

I want to make sure I tell my clients the right thing!

@rbonne's products, ingredientsand facilities are FDA approved, however some our weight management and nutrition product statements haven't been evaluated by the FDA.

This may be because the FDA requires animal testing for product statement evaluations, and we do not adhere to animal tests.

Is this incorrect? I really want to know! Thanks so much!

The best thing to do is to call home ofice & pose the question. They are the experts on why they do the things they do. It would probably be speculation on any of our parts. I have not heard or read that question addressed. Please let us know what they say!!

I simply wouldn't mention the FDA at all, there is no reason to.

The reason the "statements haven't been evaluated by the FDA" is that process takes 10+ YEARS. If you go to the health food store you will find that EVERYTHING in there that makes any health claim has that same disclaimer on it.

The drug companies pay big $$$ to get their products approved by the FDA (even when they are not safe) and an "FDA approval" has little value because of it. Most nutritional companies are against getting an FDA approval on their products....

I would disagree with you Allison - there is some value to "FDA approval".
The FDA sets guidlelines and oversees safety, manufacturing and product information, such as claims, in a product's labeling, package inserts, and accompanying literature. More here:
http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/DietarySupplements.asp

Don't you want to be sure that what you think you are buying is exactly what you are getting?

Do I want to be sure, yes! Do I think the FDA is a trustworthy agency that can be relied on for honest information, NO!

If they were truly interested in anyone's health, cigarettes would be illegal and not just require a warning label. There are many cases where unsafe drugs have gotten approval because of $$$.

I don't see mention of the FDA in any of the presentation scripts from the NVP's and I don't personally see a reason to add it in. But, I guess if it is working for you, you should keep it in! ;-)

PS: That link provided a great answer to the original question:

IT says that ALL foods and dietary supplements that claim to contain certain ingredients, reduce the "risk" of any disease, or have a particular effect on a part of the body MUST have that disclaimer.

QUOTE: Product labels containing such claims must also include a disclaimer that reads, "This statement has not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease."

There are also herbs that are unsafe and illegal. Also, with herbal supplements you can never be sure of the source and/or potency. The dietary supplement business is a multi-billion dollar business. Don't you think there are unsafe supplements that make lots of money that are on the market as well?
Tobacco isexempt from the basic health protections that theFDA applies to other consumer products.

I am not really looking for a debate and I don't think you get my point. Yes, I think there should be some regulations. But the FDA is corrupt and I do not trust their recommendations.

I am not at all saying that there shouldn't be an FDA, I am saying the one we have isn't effective.

Like you said, there are many unsafe products on the market and also there are a lot of products with the potential to do a lot of good that aren't on the market, or aren't allowed to tell people what they are really capable of because of the FDA. It's all about the $$$.

Feel free to debunk my opinion, I will leave it at that. ;-) Peace Out!

I really wasn't debating and I agree with you about leaving the FDA approval thing out of it. And my point was that although you think the FDA is corrupt and just in it for the money, don't you think there are companies who are selling supplements and promising miraculous results - weight loss, disease cures, etc., who know exactly what to say to desperate people looking for a cure? The FDA is there to set some sort of guideline. Iunderstand what you are saying about the whole corruption thing. As someone who is been through cancer treatments, I know exactly what you are talking about. And I do know that even if the FDA does not approve something, there is always a way to get around them. I guess what it comes down to for anything you take, FDA approved or not,is "Let the buyer beware".
