View Full Version : Is your company ran by two women?

I've looked at tons and tons of catalogs over the past year and it seems like there are a TON of catalogs first pages with two women with "their story" of how the company came to be. Most of the women are blonde and attractive too. Not that it's "funny", but it's makes me laugh that so many direct sales start with two women friends. Makes me want to find a wealthy friend and dye my hair blonde--LOL!

Angie ~ that's funny! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif I never noticed that before! GemStyle is owned by a couple - Scott and Wendi Miller. Scott is the one with the jewelry background - growing up in the diamond wholesale business, founding and owning diamonds.com and doing custom jewelry for people. Wendi though is probably the inspiration on alot of the designs ....she is very trendy and stylish!
I think it would be hard to start a business with friends unless you were all different...some of my friends (or my sisters) I know NOW we'd fight or argue! LOL When I lived in FL before we decided to move I was going to start a boutique with my two bestest friends - they are blonde! LOL - but we had chaired TONS of auctions and events together and we work really well because we all have different strengths and we tend to use those and focus on that. Plus we were all laid back and easy going and we can easily say "I feel this or that " and the others respect that...it was a great chemistry!
Funny though...never noticed the two friend blonde thing!! LOL ;) I'm sorta blonde so go dye your hair...what can we start...hhhmmmmm.....oh I"m not wealthy though! LOL http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gifhttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

Jewels by Park Lane is owned and ran by a large family. The Mother and Father started it when they were 16 & 19, 52 years ago. They run it debt FREE too because they planned it out right. I love it, and their story! AWESOME!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley10.gif

A wonderful woman, Anita Roddick, founded the Body Shop 32 years ago and was instrumental when the At Home division was formed. She passed away just a few months ago. She was not a blonde and having known her, I don't think in a million years she would ever have become a blonde. We currently have a man as Chairman of the company and the At Home division is also currently headed by a man.
I'm not a blonde either - maybe I should go dye my hair. I am getting it done on Friday, but I don't think that bleach will be part of what I do http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

That's funny, Angie! When you posted this I remembered the same thing and was thinking it was from all the jewelry catalogs floating around, but I just looked through them and they weren't there.
Hmmm...did they magically change?http://forum.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

Tastefully Simple is all Brunette Baby (Blonde too :)
"Tastefully Simple Founder & CEO Jill Blashack Strahan and Founding Partner & COO Joani Nielson are "in the pink" with news of their inclusion in Pink magazine's list of top 50 women business owners. The direct sales gourmet food company's entrepreneurs are in the November issue of the magazine that celebrates career women.
The list, which includes Oprah, Martha Stewart and Marilyn Carlson Nelson of Carlson Companies, honors America's leading women business owners. Qualifications for the inclusion include revenue of at least $120 million and majority ownership of their firms.
"Each of the Top 50 stepped up to opportunities that stretch to the horizons, where the only glassy ceiling is the shimmering sky," writes Joanne Cleaver, author of the article for Pink magazine.
"I'm thrilled to be included on this list and associated with women whom I admire," Blashack Strahan says. "Any list that includes Oprah is one I'm happy to be a part of," she laughs

Scentsy's "inventors" were both Blonde, ha-ha, I'm not prejudice. The owner is a family man.
I'm brunette and gorgeous, lol.
