I actually prefer to have the distributor sign up because they were wanting to treat it like a business - regardless of a special. I don't tend to broadcast the HG promotions as much - because then I get a lot of people who are looking for a good 'deal' versus looking at a good business plan. I did this month just because I am advertising "Become your own boss in 2008." However, I am also sharing with ladies how there are 3 ways to getting started - with little to no personal money included (when they contact me). The promotion is only one of 3 ways.


Promotions sometimes createba lot of sign-ups - but doesn't necessariy attract retention. Ex: When we had a $19.97 sign up in June, we had a lot of people attracted to it - and yet only 10% of those that signed up that particlar month is still with us! You attract what you advertise. People saw! Wow, I can sign up for $19.97 and get $80 worth of product AND get 40% off my first order. People shot for the minimums never having any intention fo doing more.


It almost irks me that there are 'starter kit' junkies out there that are just looking for a sign-up special versus taking the road of starting a business smart, 'giving it enough time' and creating a business plan. Wastes time for all. I am not saying that you can't buy a starter kit to 'try it out'. However, trying it out should be more than a few months to really justify if the business worked. It should be more like 1-2 years.


And, I also realize that sometimes things happen along the way that people can't give it enough time (sickness, death, children, etc)....I really am understanding!! Believe me - I took a month off when I had my twin girls.


I think whatever company someone starts with, they can be succesful if they use the companies tools and training resources. Of course, they have to enjoy the product. The key is to treating your business like a business. You have to WANT it. Success just doesn't happen.

A lot of my incentives are based on doing income-producing activities. This way, the new distributor can see $$ in their hands as they get started.


I like to work with distributors who are willing to reach for the stars and be self-starters. Overcoming obstacles is a challenge in any business. However, those that are willing to thinkm outside the box to do that will be succesful - no matter how big they want to build it.

While I think specials for sign up is great - I truly believe if someone is interested in a "Business", the focus should be on so much more. We offer 3 options in order to fit everyones budget, all the time.

What's everyone else's thoughts on this.

Iagree that there is so much more to selecting a business than the start up costs. And, if I can add, the starting commission.

I think sign on specials are great, but in many cases you are paying less because you are getting less.It may be a good idea to find out what you won't be getting by purchasing a cheaper kit. It may be worth it to sign on with a full kit if you are serious about the business.

I know that with what BabyCrazy is offering, it's not that you are getting less, they offer things like free shipping and extra products as a way to encourage people who have been tossing the idea around. Just because there is a specail promotion does not mean that you are getting a lesser product.

I was under the impression that this thread was to share what sign up specails are going on. I know quite a few of these companies, and they have great quality product.

I didn't say that anyone is getting a lesser quality product. I was trying to point out that you may be getting less quantity of marketing materials, product, etc. with a lesser priced kit. And I did say "in many cases," not always.

I know from personal experience (in the past)that I have regretted not purchasing the full price kit because it came with more business tools than the special offer kit.

I was simply responding to the discussion point that Kelly brought up. Sorry if my writing came off as confusing. :)

I totally agree with Rebecca! While there may be a great reason that someone needs a low start-up cost, I too am "irked" by people who just want a good deal. I never understood just signing up with no intention to ever build a business. I would rather spend my money on products I want rather than pre-selected products.

If you are in this business for real, the cost should be minor. We are here to sell, have parties-which in turn makes us money! If you come into this business prepared with parties booked etc and the excitement to build a business, you will make that money back!

I guess I should have read better before commenting, sorry.
I do know that with BabyCrazy, it is true that you get fewer marketing materials and demos with the less expensive kits, but I think that everyone has to start somewhere. And with the BabySteps program you can earn up to 9 extra demos, 75 extra catalogs, and 75 extra order forms. There is every opportunity to be successful. I think that if you are really wanting to be a success with your company you will be regardless of which kit you start with.
I purchased the largest kit BC had to offer and earned every cent of it back at my first party!
