hi all,
I gave my neice a SOCP candle last year as a house warming gift; she loved it, but when I was there yesterday, I was very suprised to see how it had burned...quite terribly, to be honest! It had huge wax buid up around the edges, 2 inches thick and it could no longer be lit as the rest of the candle had imploded on itself...I asked her where she was burning it (looking for drafts, etc) and she assured me she kep the wicks short...
I am giving her anohter one and plan on sending this one back. I'm not "bad mouthing" the company but really have never seen this from one of our candles...any ideas on why?

How long did she let it burn each time? My thinking (which can be quite faulty at timesforum_images/post_button_smiley.gif) is that maybe she only burned it a few minutes each time, which would cause it to have wells around the wicks. Then the next time if she did the same thing, that well would continue to get deeper because wax has a memory, and so it needs to liquify all the way across before you blow it out. I didn't know that before MB and would light a candle for just 10 or 15 minutes and wonder why they burned so poorly.
Other than that possibility, I really don't know.</font>smileys/smiley29.gif I haven't had that problem, but I usually let them burn 3+ hours at a time. I bet Corp can look at it and tell you why it burned like that.

hi Angie! that is what I am thinking, now that you mention it, that wax has a memory...and that to get it "going" the direction you "want" you have to burn it consistantly from the get go, say, 2 hrs or so ...
Very good point! And that is what happened; big, deep wells formed around each wick, which, made it impossible to light after a time...
Appreciate your comments....!

Julie, that is exactly what happened with my friend's candle. When I did ask her how long she had burned the candle each time, she had said that she had only burned it for about 20 minutes each time.
It sounds like that was what your niece was doing as well.

I have a question to add to this, when you first go to light your candle, should you cut down the wick first the first time before lit or let it burn 3 hrs before cutting any of the wick at all? That is what has stumped me a few times and I really dont know the best way to do it, kinda like "which comes first, the chicken or the egg" lol Forgive me, I've shopped way to much today, left home with my sister at 3:15 am and shopped pretty much the whole day, im exuasted and dilerious lol
