When choosing a webhost, which is better--Windows or Linux? Is there a difference at all? Does it even really matter? Obviously I know nothing about this stuff, lol.

Oh yeah...and does it matter if the web host is in a different country? I live in the US but a host located in the UK has a good deal, lol.

Hi Meredith. I am a reseller for a provider in the UK, but the actual servers are located in California.smileys/smiley1.gif

Windows vs Linux is moot, IMO. The best way to choose a host is by the
options and features you require. About the only thing you don't have
with a Linux operating system is an Access database, because that is a
Windows product.

HTH!smileys/smiley4.gif <!--
var SymRealOnLoad;
var SymReal;

Sym()
{
window.open = SymWinOpen;
if(SymReal != null)
SymReal();
}

SymOnLoad()
{
if(SymRealOnLoad != null)
SymRealOnLoad();
window.open = SymRealWinOpen;
SymReal = window.;
window. = Sym;
}

SymRealOnLoad = window.onload;
window.onload = SymOnLoad;

Hi Melle! Thanks for helping. What does an Access database do, so that I can know whether I need one or not?

Thanks again,

Meredith

Here is the Microsoft Access tour (http://www.microsoft.com/office/access/prodinfo/tour/default.mspx).

I've never worked with in for web purposes. The php-driven sites
(content management, photo albums, blogs, discussion boards) work with
mySQL. <!--
var SymRealOnLoad;
var SymReal;

Sym()
{
window.open = SymWinOpen;
if(SymReal != null)
SymReal();
}

SymOnLoad()
{
if(SymRealOnLoad != null)
SymRealOnLoad();
window.open = SymRealWinOpen;
SymReal = window.;
window. = Sym;
}

SymRealOnLoad = window.onload;
window.onload = SymOnLoad;

//-->

I've always used Windows and recommend that to my customers. :)

Either one is fine. If your site isheavily programmed you're going to know what you need, but for the majority of sites, either one is fine.

And I resell for a host in the UK too...90% of my clients host with them, and I've not heard a single complaint.
