Hi all,

I had the day off this past Friday, since our school was closed. So I decided to get myself out there and step out of my comfort zone. I made up a basket to take around with me, laid out my route, and off I went.

First stop was my vet's office to buy the special dog food our dog needs. Luckily it wasn't busy, so I grabbed my dog food and hoisted my basket up onto the counter. I had made up my votives into nice little gifts, and gave one to the tech, along with a catalog and business card. I also had her smell the candles (I had Hot Apple Pie, SOCP, French Vanilla and the new Coffee Break). She loved the votive and the jars and said she loved candles. I let her know I was selling them, paid for my dog food and left. They were all pouring over the catalog! I'll stop back next week.

My next stop was a gift shop. My plan was to leave a votive, business card, catalog and retail info with the owner, and make an appointment to stop back, but she wanted to see my wares. She sniffed, oohed and aahed, but didn't order at the time. She has a lot of candles in the store, but I pointed out that ours are gourmet, and soy/veg wax, which she doesn't have any of in her store. She was interested - another place to stop back next week.

Third stop was to my scrapbook store. I needed some stuff anyway and had hit it off with the owner earlier in the summer. The minute I walked in she said "OHHH, are you selling candles? Can I look? Bring them over here!" This was a case of just letting her go through the basket and catalog! As I was browsing she said "Can I just fill out the order form?" Like I was going to say no!! smileys/smiley17.gif She bought the Apple Pie jar plus ordered two Bella Buns. The best part was she was burning a Glade candle in the store, and she's going to burn mine instead. Free advertising!! She also said she has some friends that'll order, too. If she keeps ordering, I'm going to mention that she could get them cheaper in the COTM. smileys/smiley2.gif

Made a few other stops, gave away more votives and planted a few more seeds. Then I treated myself to lunch with my best friend. All in all, I count it a successful day, as it's not easy for me to put myself out there. But loving the candles sure helps me open up!

Just wanted to share.

Thanks for all the great advice and inspiration here - it's really helpful to a newbie.

Debbie

Thanks, everyone, for your "pats on the back" - it means a lot. I don't have near enough time to put into this as I'd like, since I work full time. I imagine many of you are in the same boat. But, as my husband said, the only one putting pressure on me to do this fast is ME. So I'll just go slow and steady, and work smarter.

Have a great week, everyone.

Debbie
