I know many here will agree, it would be a great help if people posting
for work quotes etc, put their timeline. I think many here are just
testing the waters and not really ready to have the work done. Which is
fine, but letting the web designers know this, would be very helpful.
This way we can keep in touch and followup or file the request after
replying and let it go until you contact us again.

Yes, while it would help to have a definite yay or nay, I think it
would be too hard to ask for a time frame unless you're the one picked
to do the job.

As with tire-kickers using your site's quote form most people are just
throwing the request out there to get an idea of what they're looking
at in the way of start up charges. All designers can really do is point
the person to your portfolio, give your quote or ask more questions in
order to give a more realistic quote ...then wait. If you don't hear
anything in a week - email to ask if they had any questions about
the quote, if there's still no contact after that - file it away.

Well, this is my opinion ... smileys/smiley9.gif

I think that when someone is in need of a web designer, they should do
their due dilligence, look at our signatures and our portfolios, and
contact us </span>with their needs and requests versus asking on the board "can anyone do this".

I seldom answer ads because by the time the thread is done, we all look rather desperate and pathetic. smileys/smiley36.gif But seriously ... I like</span> all the other web designers here and I don't</span> like scrambling and competing for the business of those who need design services.

I do good work. I have great prices. I'm here to help</span>, but I prefer to be contacted directly.

I agree as well. One of the first questions I ask those potential clients is when they're looking to begin the project. I give them a timeframe that I can work withto complete their project, and ask them to contact me within a week of sending their quote. I leave it up to them to get back with me, as I wouldn't want to be pressured into a purchase either.

I'm not a hard seller :)
