View Full Version : Getting a picture or banner to be http?

I know this is probably SO elementary, but I'm struggling. I've been making some banners in addesigner.com and I've only been able to get them on my site by doing something like http://sahmsnwahms/blahblah.C://MyDocs/myimage/etc. Does this make sense? This causes a problem, though, when I'm trying to get my ads on to banner exchanges. I can use addesigner's http they give me but unless the banner exchange converts it to their own space, it's a dead ad in 12 hours. I need to know how to make it the way most of the banner exchanges are wanting it, which is a direct http file of some sort. Does this involve using something with my host? I have stuff like ftp programs and all that with my host, but have NO CLUE how to use them. Please help! smileys/smiley5.gif

hmm...let me see if i understand it right. :)
after you make the banner, and it shows the way you want it to, did you
right-click and save as onto your hard drive? or is there not an option
for that?
if you can, save it to your computer and then upload it to your website
and you can then have a http://yoursite.yourhost.com/yourfilename
i hope that helps.

Hi, thanks! Yes, I've saved it to my hard drive. But when I've tried to upload it using the image upload in my site builder by just using the file name, the banner comes up not animated. The only way I can get it to show animated on my site is to do the C://mydocs etc. etc. Let me get into my site builder and I'll copy and paste some more info so maybe it will be more clear!

Here's the code that my banner is listed under on my site: <P align=center><A href="http://sahmsnwahms.com/"><IMG ('http://sahmsnwahms.com/" target="_blank"><IMG') src=" file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/CANEEL/Desktop/SAHMnWA HMS%20web%20stuff/smileyadsahmsnwahms.gif"></A ('file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/CANEEL/Desktop/SAHMnWAHMS%20web%20stuff/smileyadsahmsnwahms.gif" target="_blank"></A')>
This probably makes no sense! I'm sorry!!! smileys/smiley5.gif

you need to upload it to the web somehow. it can't start with c:/ anything!
if you don't have your own website to upload images to, www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) is a free image sharing site.
once you upload the pic there, you will use the code:
[url=http://www.yoursitetolinkto.com][img]http://www.yourimagelink.com/image.gif[*/img][*/url]
Just remove the two * from the closing tags.

Yeah, for some reason this time when I uploaded new banners it didn't work! I have them uploaded to the web, but can't get them to display a correct url. Plus, this MS FrontPage is driving me crazy!!

Jennifer, I don't even remember how I did it yesterday! I just know I did and it worked. I guess I need to try to figure it out. I think I ended up reloading a banner on a page just as the image source name, and thenright clicking on the banner, then looking at properties and it was there as http. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, especially since I was the one who had no clue how to do it! smileys/smiley36.gif
I just know I got it to work somehow and went from there. I'll probably have problems again, though. I'm so clueless when it comes to this stuff!! smileys/smiley5.gif
