Will be doing a few fairs/craft shows now until the end of the year......I am charging a flat fee of $20.00 for BOTH the 16oz jars and the apple pies.
Does this sound reasonable ??? I have decided on this price to cover shipping/handling and the taxes. (corporate take taxes out for me - I understand I am paying a little higher tax on the items this way, but I don't want to be bothered with the paperwork just yet of doing it myself). Anyhow, does the $20.00 sound reasonable ??????
Thankyou to all replies !!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

Good morning all, I am selling my jars for $18.95 plus tax but at most of the fairs or shows, I have had to start selling them at 16.95 plus tax to get anyone to buy them. Maybe its just the festivals I've been at and people can't spend that much money. I'm going to be setting up at a huge fle market on Nov. 2,3, and 4th in Indianapolis so I'm hoping I can still sell them at the 18.95? What do you all think?

im doing two craft shows the first two weekends in Nov, and I'm still unsure of pricing. I may do $18/each or 2/$33...something like that!
Valerie..have you done many flea markets? I've been thinking of doing one or two of those, just to see..

I always offer "show specials," to encourage people to buy at a show/fair/festival. Other than that, I always charge full suggested retail pricing. And I'm consistent withthat.People know that if they don't buy at the show, they're going to be paying full suggested retail.
I usually do $18 ea or 2 for $34. Another tip, I don't do $X.95 on anything. Round up to whole dollars. It's so much easier for you and your customer.
Goodluck!

I sell at 20.00 plus a free votive of their choice.
Personally, I think anything under $18.00 is way too low for a quality candle like this. BUt I guess it depends on area too. Plus I agree with Deb. No change, just a nice even dollar amount.

I agree with Debra. There is a reason corporate set the MSRP at $18.95. These are very high quality candles, and anyone who burns nice candles believes thinks that our prices are VERY reasonable.
You're short selling yourself if you go any lower. If I was at a fair and could not sell any candles at the msrp, then I would just consider it a learning experience and look for a different kind of event to do.
Once you go that low in price, people will expect that price. It's MUCH harder to raise your price after offering it for a lower price to the same people.
I, personally, don't 'create' pricing for the products. I round up so the customer doesn't have to deal with change. For example, my jars go for $20, including tax. My Bella Bars are $6, and that includes tax.
Sometimes I offer show specials, but not often. I tried offering a free votive with every jar this past weekend, but after the first sale forgot. lol..no one seemed to mind :)
good luck!

I agreed with what these lovely ladies have to say. For me, I always have a special for shows. My special is by one jar for $18, Two Jars for $35 and for Votive 1 for $3, 2 for $5 and Buy 5 bags of Melts get 1 free (I do this one occassionally). Good luck with the show!</font>

I agree with both ofyou, Debra and Jhanna. We do have extremely high quality candles and products and they are worth every penny at full suggested retail.
With that said, I still offer show specials at the fairs I do. I have been able to establish an excellent client baseand a following that comes back time and time again. The nice thing is, they usuallycome back with a friend andthey both usually purchase multiple jars.
I do always note on my pricingsigns that the candles are regularly $18.95 each so they are aware of the savings. To reinforce that,my catalogs list full suggested retail pricing.
My customers know that the special pricing is for "at the show only." I haven't had anyone not willing to paythe full suggested retail because they paid less at a show but I see your point and it's certainly worthnoting.
I guess I look at it this way. Mycustomers purchase from meon a regular basis.Since they've made the effort to come see me at a show, I offer them a small discount as a way of saying thanks fortheir continued business and referrals!
I hope everyone is having a fantastic selling season!

Shay, this will be my first flea market but I have done festivals in the past. I put that the regular price is 18.95 and I do a special for the festival at 16.95 plus tax. Thinking I might try and charge the full 18.95 at the Indianapolis flea market, not sure yet http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif
